20% of 9.8 billion alone is 50 million dollars and they gross more then that
Nope.
You're off on the math and the facts.
20% of 10 billion is $2 billion dollars.
I said net income. The 10 billion is gross income. They net $100 million.
..i would think any organization dropping this amount of money...would have more to be proud of it
And why do you think they are not? Because you never heard of them before? Like what is your basis for a claim like this. Because I could equally make the opposite claim because it only took me a few minutes to find out them promoting their STEM charity work.
I believe the only reason they participate at all could be their own reaction for having to pay 80million in 1975
1975 was 50 years ago. You understand that, right?
and hardly excuses the rest of Battel's direction and behavior.
You literally just learned about them today. I mean come on.
And then you made up a bunch of stuff about them in your head.
As government vendors, they are undoubtedly held to a close proprietary agreement.
You are correct here.
It's called Goco. Government-owned contractor operated.
A GOCO facility is a model used by the federal government in which the government pays a privately owned company to operate a facility that the government owns. The GOCO approach has been utilized extensively and successfully since the Manhattan Project by the Departments of Energy and Defense for both cutting edge scientific research and the widespread production of critical, high-technology national security assets.
GOCOs have historically been used to manufacture some of the most complex technology ever produced. For example, America’s arsenal of nuclear weapons are produced completely by GOCOs, with the plutonium pits being manufactured at Los Alamos National Lab (owned by the U.S. Government, operated by a consortium of partners led by Batelle), non-nuclear components being manufactured at the Kansas City National Security Campus (owned by the U.S. Government, operated by Honeywell), and final warhead assembly being performed at Pantex Plant in Amarillo, TX (owned by the U.S. Government, operated by a consortium of manufacturing partners led by Bechtel).
That's not a catch. You are just misunderstanding what 503c's could be.
A 503c can be a charity. But it can also be other things.
The IRS code says it must be operated for exempt purposes.
To be tax-exempt under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, an organization must be organized and operated exclusively for exempt purposes set forth in section 501(c)(3), and none of its earnings may inure to any private shareholder or individual.
Exempt purposes are
charitable, religious, educational, scientific, literary, testing for public safety, fostering national or international amateur sports competition, preventing cruelty to children or animals.
They seem to clearly qualify as a scientific organization.
Their 990 also says they do make contributions of 20% of net income
Holy shit this is bullshit
So they have known history of never achieving anything philanthropic
You do understand the example you gave does not translate to that right??
They currently do a lot of STEM funding. Their 990 says they donate 20% of net income to charitable work.
So I was right about their expertise being managing labs.
The Government-Owned Contractor-Operated (GOCO) model is a governance model where the government owns a facility but hires a private company to operate it. The government maintains oversight of the facility, while the private company is responsible for day-to-day operations. How it works
The government owns the facility, including the buildings, equipment, and intellectual property
**The private company operates the facility, including hiring and managing employees, and obtaining licenses and permits ** The government maintains oversight of the facility, including setting priorities and assessing the private company's performance
This GOCO model has been around since the Manhattan Project.
People are just getting super hyped up about them being a non-profit 503c company and not understanding their income comes from contracts not grants.
They are basically Hire-A-Scientist.
Yup. I would assume one of their expertise is knowledge of recruiting scientists and how to staff a lab
They might be compared to 3M Co. or the former Bell Laboratories.
I agree. The only difference is the guy who created this setup the company as a non profit when died. He was a rich dude who founded a scientific institute and left his money to it
........ AI Overview
Gordon Battelle's will established the Battelle Memorial Institute, a private nonprofit organization that develops science and technology. Battelle's will left half of his estate to the institute, and his mother left the rest.
Explanation Battelle's will established the Battelle Memorial Institute in 1920. The institute opened in Columbus, Ohio in 1929. Battelle believed that science could solve social problems and improve the lives of ordinary people. Battelle's family made their fortune in the steel industry. The institute has developed technologies such as xerography and titanium for aerospace. Battelle is the world's largest independent nonprofit organization that focuses on applied science and technology.
They’re located in Columbus, Ohio and conduct research in environmental, national security/defense and healthcare. Wait. No entity belongs in these three sectors under one umbrella. None.
This is silly. You just learned about this company and you are pretending they are unique. They are not.
They are a government contractor. They manage labs. They are probably in diverse areas because they are good managing labs. And good at getting contractors.
For example, the Department of Energy has worked with the University of Tennessee for 50 years. 20 years ago Battelle got the contract to manage the lab and formed an LLC with the University of Tennessee.
Without doing a second's more of research, we could speculate that Batelle handles the business of running the labs and the University of Tennessee is responsible for the research.
Why do I say they're not unique? Because I thought who else is a massive company that has government contracts that does science. And I came up with General electric and General electric. Does research at all these three areas too?
This part is silly too It says they manage natl. laboratories but typically those are supposed to be sourced to prime contractors and not the type that are given grants to do so.
Are you pretending to be an expert in government laboratory contracting?
burning the place down to rebuild isn’t the solution
No one has actually suggested it is. This is just 100% unfounded speculation. Wildfires occur naturally based on environmental conditions. Dry vegetation and high winds mainly. A million acres burned last year in Texas.
And these conditions were all present in Southern California last month.
Storm activity in the fall was higher up the Pacific Coast leaving LA in drought.
One storm that hit Santa Cruz washed away the edge of the wharf. A dude surfed what might be the the biggest wave ever at Mavericks.
So LA was dry.
The Santa Ana wind events have been known about since the days of the Spanish Missions.
A strong Santa Ana wind event was on everyone's radar and was predicted the week before the fires.
And these were crazy strong winds. Reached 100 mph in some places.
Here's an early Jan report that said conditions were bad for LA.
For January, above normal significant fire potential is forecast across portions of southern California, much of central and south Texas, and from the central Florida Peninsula northward through the Panhandle and along the Atlantic coast into eastern Virginia.

People are looking for someone to blame.
He wasn't dismissed.
He resigned and we knew this was going to happen back in November. News Reports described Smith and the rest of the Special Counsel Office seeking to close up shop
This is from Nov 13th.
Jack Smith, the special counsel who pursued two federal prosecutions of Donald J. Trump, plans to finish his work and resign along with other members of his team before Mr. Trump takes office in January, people familiar with his plans said.
On Dec 30 he withdrew from the Mar a Lago case. Which is currently still active against the two other defendants. Smith gave it to the US attorney is South Florida.
So we knew he was leaving. What we learned in the footnote was the official date was the 10th.
My point was the made it seem like was going out quietly but he's not. He's going to give his say in his two reports.
Merrick Garland’s DOJ never told the Judge who signed off on the search warrant on Mar-a-Lago raid that President Trump had given the FBI full consent to search Mar-a-Lago.
This is silly and old. Judge Cannon shot this down last year. And it's also false.
First the false part.
Trump made one argument outside of court and one inside court.
What Trump's lawyers argued in court was NOT THAT Trump gave consent for the FBI to search Mar a Lago because he never did. That is a false claim. What Trump's lawyers argued in court was one FBI supervisor thought maybe they should ask Trump for consent rather than get a search warrant and this should have been told to the judge who signed off on the search warrant.
Judge Cannon shot this down because it's completely irrelevant. It had nothing to do with what their probable cause to search Mar-A-Lago. There absolutely was. The FBI had already subpoenaed the security camera footage. So they already knew when boxes were moved out of the storage room and that not all the boxes were returned
Upon full review, and for the reasons stated below, the Motion is DENIED.....because Defendant Trump has not made the requisite “substantial preliminary showing” that the affidavit in support of the Mar-a-Lago search warrant contains any material false statements or omissions.
(Trump did say months before the search warrant, that he would give the FBI whatever they needed.
This is not the same as consenting to a search. This would not have involved the residence areas of Mar-A-Lago where they found the missing boxes with classified documents.
This would have referred to the storage room. And by the time of the search warrant they found Trump had moved boxes out of the storage room and not all of them returned. So Trump already was not getting them want they needed and they found several things in his office.
The "assassination instructions" is pure 100% BS. The FBI scheduled This search for a Time when they knew Trump was not only not at Mar-A-Lago. He was not even in the State of Florida.
