I took an overnight cruise through the locks there. When they pack the cargo ships into those locks, they just run them into each other, sparks literally flying as the hulls scrape together. I vaguely recall there being 5 other ships alongside our cruise ship.
Along the cruise, we toured one of the artificial ghost towns the government built for the population that was displaced by the dam. The only people in sight were the convenience store clerks at the dock, trying to sell to us tourists.

Mp came to get them? I call bullshit. Mp wouldn't go and get people for duty like that. They should/would get a call from their CO or barracks would've called them in.
The rest of it is believable, but the part that (to me at least) makes it loose credibility is the MP part.

It is not done that way in any normal circumstance. MP's are separate from other units. Soldiers are notified via many means to report from their chain of command. MP units are just like other regular army units. They are not responsible for finding privates who need to report for a specific reason. I suspect some exaggeration on the part of the OP or his buddy.
