From what I hear, libel cases are notoriously difficult to prove in the US. And that it was proven in New York, a left leaning state is almost insane. It must have meant the New York Times screwed up really really bad.
Based on the nature of Veritas' product, he probably had an informant at the Times. Very dangerous to attack an actual journalist that holds onto newsworthy items for months before publishing.
I think they just assume everyone uses the same journalistic standards as them, so they assumed anything Veritas was printing was fake news. LOL xd too bad for them having to wake up to the fact we still have real journalists, you just rarely find them in MSM (shoutout to Maria Bartiromo)
What this ruling is that they NYT failed to convince the court to dismiss the case before a trial. Veritas has won the right to actually go to court. They didn't win the final case.

From what I understand, proving malice is one of the hardest things to do in a case of libel / slander. So this should be a big deal.
