The New Testament has all we need, but you'll understand it much better if you know the Old. If you're just starting, I'd personally read it like a collection of stories and let it soak in. Definitely. So far it is a collection of stories and I am enjoying it. I am having a hard time, though, with the whole God chose Abraham, Isaac and Israel and really the main virtue for chosing Abraham was because he was willing to sacrifice his son. I know its meant to show that he was obedient to God and was willing to follow His orders with full faith, but is it a coincidence that what God asked was child sacrifice?
If I did not know any better, it feels a lot like main stream subtly introducing things in thier programming to normalize what is not accepted as normal. Is it possible that the Bible as we know it has been manipulated over the years?
I will keep reading and keep an open mind, but would love to know what others think of these things.

My interpretation is that the ancient Scriptures (Old Testament) tell us about the early stages of God reclaiming (reconciling) the world to HIS purposes. I say, that God's work of reclamation is ongoing - including the resurrection of Christ Jesus - and it will continue beyond our time here.

I think its a little more than just a TV show. I have heard on multiple videos on alien / ufo stuff, that SG-1 was supposed to be a disclosure project - preparing people for disclosure. The series itself has multiple episodes that talks about disclosure and one episode even explores a world where there is full disclosure, but they end up getting enslaved by the "benign" aliens anyways.
My guess is, there were two opposing forces - those wanting disclosure and those not wanting it, and the same forces acted in the making of the show as well.

I say keep reading! The Old Testament is the genealogy of Jesus, and it predicts the eventual fulfillment of God’s promise to Adam and Eve.
