So, long story short, I travelled to a neighboring state for about 10 days and was perfectly healthy before, during, and (for a short time) after my trip. Once I got back, I felt to be in good health, but that only lasted a couple of days.
About 2 days after I got back, I ate a can of old chili I had in the pantry that was a few months past its best by date, but I figured it would be fine because it smelled ok and I planned on cooking it to a high temperature. I woke up the next morning feeling awful, and had all the symptoms of food poisoning. Decent headache, slight fever w/ chills, achy muscles (presumably from the fever), and diarrhea. It wasn't too bad, but was bad enough for me to tell work I would not be working for the day. These symptoms lasted about 3 days, and the 4th day I could tell I was getting better so I never thought anything of it, was just grateful to be returning to good health.
Then two days after recovering from what I thought was food poisoning, I lost my sense of smell and taste, completely. So clearly what I thought was food poisoning, was really covid? It's been almost 8 days since my senses went away, and they are showing no signs of coming back - drinking a tasteless, odorless cup of strong dark brew coffee right now while typing this.
Basically, Covid symptoms are mild enough that I thought it was food poisoning instead of the thing that shut down the world for months. However, the post-recovery symptoms are kinda bumming me out. I've been deciding what to eat based on the texture of the food rather than taste, which is a very strange thing to have to do. It's been a lot of fried and spicy foods, cause those give the most sensation in my mouth. Beer is interesting too cause it has no flavor, but I can definitely feel the strength of the alcohol more (im drinking an IPA now that I can only describe as both 'smooth and aggressive')
Anyone else who had it experience a loss of taste/smell? How long did it take for your senses to return?
That is one of the symptoms of covid and your taste and smell will come back. Most say can be anywhere from a week to 2 or 3 weeks. You are like my husband why would anyone want to eat anything past the expiration date. I wont.
cause I was hungry and it was midnight :(
I'm a basketball player and played in the hood for decades. Had my nose broke at least 5 times. Lost all sense of taste and smell for 5 years until I had surgery to correct it. I've been there pede. You'll make it.
I've been surrounding myself with intense smells trying to force it back lol, candles lit 24/7, brewing coffee even when I dont plan on drinking it, incense, leaving pre-rolled hempettes (just pure hemp in a rolling paper) burning, etc. It's a strange world not having smells
Good idea
Take a zinc supplement every day- it helped my nephew get his taste/smell back in a couple of days...
Get your vit D3 and vit C (1000mg at least) supplements in as quickly as you can. (do not go for complex), and keep it up. Lose the alcohol.
Drink some needle tea. (surimin)
Add zinc and selenium supplements.
Vit D3 helps in containing a virus outbreak, whatever dormant virus you may have. Haven't been sick in 2 years and dancing happily through this whole "scamdemic".
Consider buying slow juice, especially the one with kurkumin. https://www.greenchoicenow.com/v/organic-juice
After that, consider detoxing.
If you cant taste Id suggest eating lots of healthy things. Supply your body with pure foods with high vitamins. Since you cant taste the bland flavor or everything is bland its a great time. I sympathize with you bc I would be miserable without being able to taste food. Feel better, God speed!
People have been losing the sense of smell and taste every time they get a bad cold or flu. There have been papers written about it going back to the 80’s.
I hear you on the texture thing. I had the smell/taste thing last November. It started with smell becoming muted (not 100% gone, just weird)...then taste followed. My only other symptoms were a headache that would not go away and GUSHING nosebleeds multiple times a day. Did not feel "sick" at all. Lasted about a week. Smell & taste have been back to normal ever since.
Ivermectin has been clinically shown to improve lingering Covid symptoms even after the acute phase.

Homeopathy class taught me that Colchicum Autumnale 30C or 200c is very beneficial. Boiron brand available at health / natural food stores. It is taken twice daily. Price around $10!
Yep this actually is the go to remedy for gout when taken at the beginning of an episode until all symptoms resolve.
I am surprised that more people are not taking Cinchona (quinine) preventatively since so many people in Africa were protected from covid because of taking quinine for malaria.
Nonetheless there are many sites on the internet of homeopaths treating covid which lists many options for treatment all dependent the symptoms. I corrected the incorrect Cincinnati (which the computer switched on me) to the correct homeopathy for quinine which is cinchona. The corrections don't always work...sorry.
Thank you for telling us about your experience.
It might be worth you trying zinc supplements and a zinc ionophore like green tea or quercetin. I have a theory that the taste and smell loss is due to the COVID-19 illness depleting zinc in the body. Zinc depletion is known to cause loss of taste and smell.
I didn't exactly lose my sense of taste and smell but everything smelled and tasted like a chemical that I couldn't quite place. Other than that I felt like I was sore from a good workout and had a headache. Called my daughter-in-law who is a doctor and she sent me a 5 day supply of Plaquenil (HCQ) and a Z-pack. Three days into the meds I was fine although I still finished the 5 day regime. I have since gotten a months supply of Plaquenil from her so I will have it on hand.
The firsthand account is appreciated. Please share what medication you've taken and update so others can learn from your experience.
Im a 23 yr old male, only medication throughout the 4 day symptom period was 2 low strength ibuprofen in the morning and before bed to manage the headache/muscle aches, and a glass or two of orange juice daily for the vitamin C. Also went and bought some fruit and tried to eat healthy during the symptom period (salads, fruits/nuts, etc), but I really didnt eat much. Was lucky to get 1 meal in per day.
No additional vitamins taken, and minimal sunlight only because I had no reason to go anywhere.
Smoked a lot of weed during too, that always makes me feel better when I'm sick (indica of course, for the body aches)
It might be worth finding a doctor who understands Ivermectin and could tell you if Ivermectin could help? Heard it can help with the inflammation which can be the cause of neurological symptoms, and can also help protect against long-hauler syndrome. Obviously you'd have to speak to a doctor to know if it could help, I don't have any personal expertise but thought might be worth a mention. Hope you feel better soon....
Ive had many a Thanksgivings ruined by the common cold and losing taste and smell. You'll get over it.
Unlike the recent thanksgiving tyrants tried to ruin.
That sounds miserable, thanksgiving is my favorite meal of the year
My taste should definitely be back before then though!
Same here, that why it is memorable.
Thanks for the direct account. Only addition to comments is to be conscious of your breathing. Covid, in the off chance it becomes dangerous which probably won't happen, trends to sneak up gradually so that you don't notice until breathing becomes difficult. If that happens get ivermectin or another good treatment protocol fast. But it sounds like you're already over it.
yes, ultimately I agree. I put the stuff in about the can of chili because it only might be related, but i think it was really just coincidental timing with my symptoms actually starting. Cause the chili was indeed delicious and I cooked it hot as hell
I wonder if your senses came back so quickly because of the hqc. I've had my senses gone for about 8 days now, and I did NOT take hqc, or anything really. Just some ibuprofen, orange juice, and THC
