The editors of Wikipedia have had an agenda for at least two decades. When I taught, I always let students know that Wikipedia was not acceptable as a source for any of their research.
No not as bad, but even then it was biased on social issues/people. I admit that as a spring board to other sources it is useful.
I was teaching engineering & comp sci 10 years ago. Those topics are in general safe, except when it comes to any history behind them. Still, I didn't allow it -- never too early to start enforcing good habits.
My memory of my first use must be off, or I'm remembering an early version of something similar I used in 1993. Anyway, I specifically remember looking in 2009 for a specific incident having to do with the influence of family courts by feminism that had been suppressed by Wikipedia.
You are told what to believe, then you write it down several times, your classmates would fact check your notes by comparing them to the teachers notes.
Yep..and these same moronic kids think they are doing actual research by going to any "fact check" website that happens to be funded by the same people they are fact checking. Kids are morons thanks to parents allowing them to stay in public school and not questioning what they are learning.

Admittedly, in high school I used Wikipedia for research papers but I always used the source resources given in the articles I was researching.
That was 10 years ago, though. It wasn’t nearly as blatantly propagandized as it is now.
Exactly this...it was a good resource to find actual resources..that's about it.

They’ve only been around since 2001. They definitely weren’t shitty in the beginning. At least two decades doesn’t make sense.

Yes, my children were told that 20 years ago too. I wonder the standard today?

They used to say it wasn’t a valid source.
The standard now?
YAHOO “NEWS” “LEAKS”
“FBI MEMO”
CLAIMING “QANON” TO BE TERRORIST ORG
“CITING” “SNOPES” & “WIKIPEDIA” AS THEIR SOURCE!
Of course this all occurred after the first time Trump and Q threatened they were about to do the same with ANTIFA!
Coincidence?
Bunch of Yahoo’s if you ask me..
How convenient.
