On top of many other reasons... I will not send them somewhere that will scare them half of the day 5 days a week!!!! "Dont play with other kids!! You might die!!" Not gonna happen!!!

We use Abeka! 😊
Used Abeka when I homeschooled and really like the curriculum!
all those sample videos are creepy/cringey...and expensive
I only got books and anything extra came from us, I didn't have the money for anything but books!
I think your best defense if to organize all the parents that oppose mask mandates together into one group, and withhold your children from school. I don't think the public school system could survive if all parents acted in one voice.
Would move to homeschooling also though.
Yes. Take your vouchers and form little pods or schools where the federal woke b.s. doesn't exist.
Agree. That takes time. I was hoping for suggestions for the short term. I would love to do this though. If anyone in the wnc area wants to try to get something off the ground let me know!!
So, I saved this many moons ago because I assume I'll be teaching my kids from home. It's Christian based learning, might not be a good fit for you. To be honest it might not be a good fit for me, but it's a start. I will be looking for other resources shortly. https://www.abeka.com/
In our county the public schools have to pay the parents if they feel the public school system is not effective for the kids to do private or homeschool. Make sure you are not entitled to free money before you pull them out.
Wow. That's a funny way to say f you!! Pretty awesome!!
Our county collided with the school board because we fought it since last school year. The school boards had final say and we forced them to lift it. Last board meeting we made sure to let them know, no surprises before school. There was a movement amongst a bunch of doctors led by a doctor mom in the district pushi g to get masks back on. When they lost with the board they went to the county pleading. We bombarded the county too saying we won’t do it. They knew they wouldn’t get away with masking the whole county so they zeroed in on the little kids. They even said previous board meeting they didn’t have the authority but schools were looking for an out. They had the order ready to go and within hours of passing our school board sent out their email stating the didn’t have a choice. Bastards! We the kicker is every board meeting we showed up it would be about 30 pro choice parents or more and maybe one or 2 maskers. Our county commissioner meeting we could have had up to 500 people (exaggerating a bit) and they had 4. Yet the commissioners are saying they get thousands begging to mask the kids. I say BS and who cares what they want, it’s not their right.
My daughter graduated through abeka about 8 years ago. It’s Christian based & worked perfect for us.
i have no info. ive never homeschooled but just saying good for you!!! i thought i would have to having spent the last 2 years in CA until we hightailed it back to TX. the masks on kids is fucking criminal and dumb. i applaud you doing this even if it means you are probably having to change a bunch in your own life/work to do it. I was too scared we couldn't afford it unless i found a home job.
My kids attend a career focused online school under the K12 umbrella. The main benefits for me are that all classes are recorded (or you can attend) so you ALWAYS know what is being taught or discussed in class, and the personal attention & fantastic communication between teachers, administration, students & parents. We have gone to 2 schools under K12, one REALLY sucked, and the one they will graduate from this year is absolutely incredible & we LOVE it! I pulled mine from the same school my grandparents, parents & brother and I graduated from because of hinky shit in the administration. Never looked back! If you work full time, homeschooling is hard unless you find a group as others have suggested. I'm a single parent so this works great for me. They work with your kids at their speed & the kids love getting to have experience in different careers to help them decide what they want to be when they grow up. The name is Destinations Career Academy of (enter state name here), you can find them under K12 schools. The one we hated was called a Prepatory Academy & it sucked massive donkey balls! Happy to give more information if you would like. Again the biggest benefit is I can be 100% involved without having to plan, find curriculum, teach, etc. I did that for 2 years and my kids and I were not happy; I worked FT and could not make it fun enough for them (or me honestly).
Yes please. I'm trying to do this as a single dad... I am trying to collaborate with my ex wife so that's another big hurdle in the whole thing. Much appreciated fren.
This could be a great compromise for you both, the kids are still in public school, but at home where YOU control their safety! Do you mind sharing your state? I'm in Colorado and I know different states offer different schools. If you're in Colorado, I'll link you to our school, if not, I'll see if your state has one. I really can't say enough about our school, I feel extremely blessed to have found it and I'm sure I can help sell it to your ex, because I truly believe my kids benefit more here than they would have in indoctrination camp, I mean brick & mortar school.
I'm in nc. This in my opinion seems to be the best short term option I have that I found so far.

I still don't want that either... The online schooling has been shit. This is just the same thing... but I would be able to control wether or not they are being told if you want to play with your friends it might kill you every fkn day!!!
This is definitely a sister school to ours, I see Career focused electives & ours also has just become "powered by Stride" whatever that means lol! I can't say if they are teaching any if this weird shit in this school, but I know they aren't in mine. Transparency is my favorite word and this school is transparent. I can attend their classes or watch the recording later. If they are skipping classes or not getting work done, I know about it before they know I know. I would hope that all of their schools are as awesome as ours, but honestly, at least you can shut that shit down if you're not happy with it. Communicate with the teachers and admin, go to the social events and give your kids a chance to meet their classmates and teachers. I HATED this part....but it gave my kids the social structure to make friends and to personally know their teachers. I can email a teacher at 8 p.m. and 90% of the time they respond within the hour. They encourage my kids to do their best and they understand when they can't & work it out with them. We had a LOT of emotional upheaval in our house of Mom & twin 17 year old sisters (fucking hormones are ridiculous over here) last year & this school supported each of my girls in different (but best for them) ways. What is your ex looking for, is she on board at all? In my eyes, if you can sell her on this and it fails, at least they aren't in a room all day where you can't see if they are teaching CRT or not! You can find something better later, it's important to feel like your kids are safe. At home, you KNOW they are safe!
I have read and tried just about everything out there. I'm now 15 years in. PLEASE believe my when I tell you you have tons of time and can keep things simple. Let your kids climb trees and explore their interests. Do a liitle school each day. Read to them, talk to them. Take them places. Elementary is exploration intake, middle is learning to compare and contrast, high is developing your thinking. Aka, in the classical world: gramnar, logic, and rhetoric. In the biblical world, knowledge, understanding, and wisdom. But again, you can start your kids late, finish them early, and still have extra time. Publics school is a MASSIVE time waster.
Anyone care to share some free resources? I have 0 budget...but plenty of time and energy. Thanks
You don't need a lot of money- what grade are your kids?
ages 5 3 1 and another new one on the way!
We just got the two older ones some notebooks and backpacks so they experience "normalcy" and they loved the school shopping
You can cover everything you need to cover with your kindergartener in 2-3 hours a day tops... that's most of elementery school, honestly. We're talking letters, numbers, colors, days of the week, months of the year, weather, seasons...lots of reading to them-- beginning letter sounds/phonics... counting to 10. Talking about bugs, leaves, etc. You don't even need material for that. Count your food, buy that giant kindergarten lined paper, and draw 4 pictures showing the seasons. Do activities to go with what they are learning. Every family has their own things they are into... my boys likes to draw so I had them draw stuff related to learning. Sonlight curriculum was my favorite because it was based on whole books. A lot of their suggested books you can find used or at the library, like The Berenstein Bears' Big Book of Science and Nature. Enjoy this time-it's precious. Edit: My oldest will graduate this year with an engineering degree (civil) from a military college and my youngest will be starting not long from now a mechanical engineering degree. Despite my inconsistencies, they still are wildly well adjusted, happy, and doing well. We don't have a lot of financial.luxuries, but our boys make us beam with joy.
much appreciated...we went over a ton of stuff this morning that you mentioned. Did you give them summer break or was school year round? Glad to hear your boys are doing so well in life. We just left the daycare system so shaking off the rust here.
We did what I called weather- based homeschooling: did school during bad weather, no school when it was nice. I grew up in nature and wanted my kids to as well. We have some land and a creek. We live in Virginia, so it was a good balance. My boys got plenty of exercise and sunshine- had some farm animals along the way. Also, life stuff happened over the years- if I needed to take a break for a trip (like when my mom had a stroke) or whatever- we just took a break. In general, we tried to keep math going year around so there wasn't all that review to do. There is an excellent, but intimidating (as in they taught their kids Latin and Greek), book called Teaching the Trivium by the Bluedorns- lots of great info in there. She has a lot of research that shows starting math too soon (before that child is ready) is counterproductive. There is also a book series out called, "What your X-grader needs to know." I never bought any of that series, but I know it's out there. We did the Seton testing each year (setontesting.com), and it (the CAT Survey test) only covers Math and English (it's the easiest test)... so I could teach science and history however I wanted (sequence, etc.)... different states have different rules. Virginia is a great state to homeschool in- I sent them a test score and a letter once a year, and they left me alone. When my oldest reached 8th grade I got two priceless resources: Lee Binz' book called Setting the Record Straight on grading and transcripts for high school; and College Prep Genius' e-course on learning how to take the SAT. My son got his score up a couple hundred points, and that super high score validated my transcript for a lot of colleges. He earned a 4 year AFROTC scholarship. The course costs $150, the scholarship was worth over $90k. He ended up getting medically disqualified, so he lost it, but the point is--- those two resources teach you how the game is played. No grades prior to 9th grade count--- so you have a lot of time to figure out what you're doing. Just be clear on the testing and notification details of your state. Homeschool Legal Defense Association HSLDA should have a guide for each state. :) It's a wonderful path to take. Last comment: One thing I don't regret is cutting television and buying tons of library books at the sales they have (often 25 cents a book). My sons also didn't get a smart phone or use the internet until their older years... and no video games. Books, real games, art, nature, activities--- all real life stuff. If you are competing with video games and youtube from the time they are small, you'll have to break the addiction and deal with their withdrawal symptoms (from the dopamine feedback). I'm writing a book! Lol You'll meet great people homeschooling- and I always enjoyed our state convention- good speakers, materials, and inspiration. I could't afford to go for years, but when you can it is always nice. Have fun!
I really really appreciate what you wrote. I sent this to my wife and we have both read it thoroughly. Already enjoying all the extra time Im getting back with my children. Thank you again and God bless you and your family.
YES! Thank you so much. This is exactly the kind of thing I needed. Bless you
It'd be cool if you could get a few families to share the burden. Maybe 10 kids max. Kids move to different house for different class kinda like school.
I just don't know many people around here in the same situation.. but 100 percent agree.
...aaaaaaand just noticed your username. lol!!
Takes a knee
you'd have to carrying that thing around all day
Need a good base to start from. Thanks

My wife and I are using Master Books curriculum. It's Christian based. So far so good. Our son is now in 6th grade. Good luck to you and your family.
We just got an email from our school district that said over 80% polled are again at masks next school year
Check out "The Good & the Beautiful curriculum! This is the one I had chosen before enrolling in mask free, in person private school! However we have 4 children so we might not be able to afford private school long term!
Amazing! Thank you!! This helps me too!
Ron Paul's is $250/year. If I read correctly. It can be done. When they aren't in 'school' take them to museums, state fairs, 4H whatever else. The school in your home last about 3-4 hours, much less for smaller aged. You are making a choice that will benefit them for years to come.
They won't have memories of masked people all around them. Think of the psychological effect of NOT seeing the natural facial features. Of smiling, frowning, laughing, even anger. How can a child make sense of the world when the most expressive, and immediately accessible part of a person is hidden?
100% I have a few years before school would start. I'm just preparing.
Thanks! I will check those out.
Bless you! This is starting to become a strong consideration for me, too!
Great list! We use My Fathers World. Love it. Started homeschooling last year and it was one of the best decisions we’ve made. It’s hard work, but very rewarding. Best of luck!
