This is how I have lived for 20 years. I gave up every credit card in 1999 and only buy things for cash. That means second hand is usually affordable. Also, the little guys they need your $50 but Costco could care less about you. I also gave up fast food except Culver’s once in a while. In fact we just had a rummage sale over Labor Day and three couples combined earned $1100. That’s not too shabby.
My spouse fixes old tools with broken handles he combines them and resells them once a year he brought in $600 of that total.
I think I’m sticking to the man this way. Our home is paid off and our cars are paid for so it’s easier to live and now finally we can and do save money. The plandemic helped as I haven’t gone anywhere on vacation.
It was good to mention thrift stores because most suggestions have been options that would hurt financially. Good idea. Many give their profits to ministries.
Buy second-hand clothes from individual traders online. Do your research, re: vintage labels. there are luxury brands that sell for tiny fractions of replacement cost. Go for timeless styles that are made from natural fibres. Many people sell them because they changed shape, however, if they are individual sellers, they are also trying to make ends meet.
If you’re still buying food from grocery stores you are buying Chinese imported food. It’s alllllllll processed. They inject your chicken with salt water to make it more plump, they rub your brown cuts of beef in fresh blood and dye to make them look fresh, they have generically modified salmon to the point where they can choose the color, most of your catfish comes from vietnam. Most produce come from China and Mexico...
Buy an angus calf and raise it for a year on at least an acre of land, provide feed, keep his grass upkept and mowed.
Buy 30 Cornish cross chicks, build a movable housing system for them, move their housing every single day so they can have fresh cut grass, give them food and water.. in less than 10 weeks process them and stack a deep freezer full. You’ll never ever have to buy meat again.
I’m currently eating on a bowl of chicken soup that I made from a chicken I processed right here at home. Last night I had a steak sandwich from a cow I fed and interacted with every single day, and it doesn’t get much better than that!
I’m not allowed fowl in my village but I grow everything in my soil fruits, veggies, mushrooms, and nuts. However, in WI all food is labeled as to where it came from so avoiding Chinese is easy.
My wife was about to buy a $200 air purifier on amazon. I convinced her to let me get an American made one for 30% more and wasn't sold through Amazon. My money may not go as far, but Bezos and the CCP don't get a cut.
Big box stores employ people in your community. We need to make them pay people what their worth and source from USA if anything. A Big Box is just that. A box. What's inside matters.

Most places now will allow hens but not roosters. If they don't, you should talk to your local government about allowing hens.

Just bought 400# of legumes, rice, and grains from locals..
When your wallet is closed and remains that way, they all lose.
I'm all for local businesses, but sometimes local businesses suck. LoL.
Your money can be made to work FOR YOU as opposed to you doing things you don't want to do because you are giving it away on endless stupid shit.
