The bill was quietly passed in both houses of the parliament and is awaiting the queens assent to become law last I heard. Australia has become the test site for unbelievable measures. I did it as a cop and the public always gave us permission. people are sloppy with those stupid social media accounts all you have to do is send a friend request and social media idiots accept it every time. Then put your gps tracker on and we know where every shit head who has his phone is. People are stupid.
Civil disobedience. They're counting on most people being too afraid to not comply. Don't reply when they contact you for your picture, don't answer the phone when they follow up with a call, then when they are forced to send personnel to your residence to confirm your presence and hear you explain yourself, you'll just say, "Oh I guess my ringer wasn't on." Rinse/repeat ad nauseum until they give up because there's no way to have enough manpower to keep it up.
I want to go back to 1995. The internet was cool, but people still connected in person or you know, actually called each other. Cell phones were pretty much non-existent. That might be the last good year. I know some of you older pedes will say it was much better before then, but that's my frame of reference as a 10-year-old in the 90s. It was still a hell of a lot better today, and that's not just rose-colored lenses.

Maybe the masks helped them improve their facial recognition algorithms enough that they can still tell who you are, mask or no mask.
Part of it is also training AI systems to detect the face under the mask.
