I’m a Speech-Language Pathologist who has the privilege of working with kids on the ASD. One on one in their homes. I’ve started a program with many of focusing on establishment of critical thinking skills. I’m amazed and humbled by the strides these kids have made in their ability to reason. When I read these stories my heart hurts because most of the “normal kids” will never develop these skills. God bless you teachers who have to contend with this.
God bless you too, this is exactly what we need as a nation, stop bitching about it and do something to change it. For our children, they need God in their lives instead of the clownshow.
I’d love to see some of your information (or even links to info on the web) on this. I feel like my child will never develop these skills if I don’t teach her but I really didn’t know where to start or if we are possibly helping her some just in the way we parent differently from others.

Contrarian view: Art class for the sake of art is useless.
This is a bunch of art teachers talking. Kids nowadays find 'analog' art class to be a waste of time, but their creativity is obviously evident in other areas (digital is only one area). In magnet / charter and private schools, the "art" requirement is being fulfilled with CAD, drafting, 3D design, modeling (like architectural stuff) and "new media" technology. All hands-on stuff.
This dope is trying to teach art off of Powerpoint slides and giving written tests rather than a practical exercise... her lack of self-awareness is the problem.
Source: I have kids that tell me exactly that. There are maybe 2-3 in each of their grades that are good at drawing and like art class. The rest would rather stick sharpened #1, 2 and 3 pencils in their eye.
They also don’t tell you if these difficult kids are all third-world immigrants either. These teachers would never reveal it if all the white kids were sharp, smart, well-behaved, and now it’s a bunch of Syrians, Afghanis, and Haitians lying in the middle of the floor telling them to fuck off while they watch their phone.

Maybe they don't understand kids don't give a fuck about school in general and aren't going to put what little effort they do towards the ART class compared to say STEM shit? Step it up pedes.
I tend to agree, what good is a Powerpoint in an art class? Show them how to make something, let them make it themselves. What is the point of written tests? It's art class, it's basically pass/ fail. Do they actually try to make art or goof off?
There is nothing more concerning to me than the kids and young people who are growing up without the energy, curiousity, or interest in learning to work with their hands. The post is very troubling.

Children who are forced into school every morning have always showed little enthusiasm for learning. In fact, many come to resent it. It’s nothing new. You grow to appreciate learning with age when it’s on your own terms.
In my physiology class the professor talked about an MIT study that was done that showed that MIT students in class had extremely little going on in terms of brain waves. Everyone, even the people with big standardized test numbers, has been conditioned for mindlessness.
I think to fight the use of technology is a waste of energy. What I do is add to. I teach geology. Their labs are partially hand on. I make the hands on part 50% of the grade. The attendance and participation has been very good once they get the message. They put their phones away and actually start to listen to me. In school, grades are currency.
All this has a lot to do with the mandatory vaccine schedule. If fully vaccinated, these kids have received scores of doses of aluminum and probably mercury, and have lost brain function. They are being dumbed down purposefully. They are dumber than rocks. Stop vaccinating children.
I remember during my time in high school, my peers were dumb as hell also. We didn't have smart phones, but there were still an infinite amount of distractions. I remember sitting in class and just staring at my desk for half an hour and absolutely NOTHING was registered in my head from the teacher. The teachers are also mindless NPCs who have no passion and repeat what they are told. How can students get engaged with something like that? It wouldnt surprise me if this art teacher is boring and shows absolutely no passion when teaching. You can't just tell students the answer to the test you have to interest them in in the subject, which teachers FAIL miserably at doing and instead just blame their students.
Also, I'm not saying smart phones aren't a problem. They are, especially their addictive nature. Schools should really outright ban them during class time. How did we survive without cell phones decades ago? Of all the things schools ban, I'm surprised none of them ban smartphones.
