Yep, people dont understand this at all. The go on crazy diets, no this, no that, its just crazy. If you just eat everything in moderation you can be quite healthy.
Cut down on anything thats processed and refined (especially sugars) and you will be fine.
But if you are obese, diabetic, or have any chronic nutritional issues, it is unwise to start intermittent/fasting without consulting a doctor or nutritionist. You should be monitored, because you can do severe damage to your gallbladder and kidneys if you are careless.
Otherwise, intermittent fasting is one of the best methods for weight loss (unless you are extremely disciplined and are very good at reducing calories in a normal, balanced diet -- I am not). And 3-5 day fasts are great to do on occasion to reset your diet and cravings. But again, obese, diabetic, etc., should consult their doctor/nutritionist first.
from what I've seen and researched it's a multifaceted issue. Sugar as many have identified but also low quality fats like vegetable oils and low quality carbs, as well as a sedentary lifestyle that doesn't make use of the carbs as an immediate energy source. And all of these things are in HUGE abundance everywhere, it's no wonder we've gotten fat and sick as a society cuz these damn things are combined in so many foods and they are fucking EVERYWHERE. Huge portion sizes too.
dose is the poison. sugar, low quality oils, low quality carbs, lack of activity
cut back heavily on the sugar
avoid garbage cooking oils like vegetable oil and its many seed based derivatives - stick with butter, beef tallow, coconut oil, olive oil and other oils extracted from the flesh of stuff
carbs. problem is twofold, abundance in so many dishes and not actually using them. if you train and do alot of physical activity they are a beneficial source of energy and restock muscle glycogen stores, but pack on the body fat when you eat a crapton and don't make use of them. not to mention the abundance of junk carb sources in american foods that combine the sugars and low quality oils mentioned before.
Start by balancing your proteins, fats and carbs and eating them every 3-4 hours and you'll be off to a good start. Just make sure these 3 macros are healthy and not overly processed crap.

This is very true.

in the modern era, one's light diet trumps food diet. But hardly anybody pays attention to their light diet, and that's a big problem.
Do you mean exposure to different light sources like the sun, screens etc?
The importance of vitamin D through Sunlight cannot be understated.
