Rittenhouse Square was named after David Rittenhouse, first director of the US Mint.
His ancestor was Wilhelm Rittenhausen, the first papermaker in America, who had a paper mill there.
Another descendant of Wilhelm married a distant cousin of mine back in the 1700s, so I'm related to a lot of Rittenhouses. I'll have to trace Ryan's tree and see if I'm related to him. That would be great.

It should have gone further…this is in Philadelphia…where our Declaration was conceptualized, written and declared!
The original, unamended Constitution was also drafted and signed in Philadelphia.
But the Bill of Rights was ratified on December 15, 1791 at Federal Hall in New York, the capitol at the time.
