So going to wait it out a tad, to see if they go through with it, but full on vaccine passports are basically here in South Korea. They are going to require them to go into restaurants, bars, and cafes. It's hard to see Koreans putting up much of a fuss considering they are now working on vaccinating 5 year old kids here.
I'm weighing the option of coming back to the states about 2-3 years earlier then planned, possibly in July. My original home and where most of my family is at is in Charlotte, NC.... I really don't want to live in the city, but could live maybe an hour away in the NC mountains might be nice?
I want to do what is best for my 1 year old son as a new dad I didn't think these decisions would weigh on me so much, making the right decision for his future is paramount to me. I would like to be close to my mom and family, but I've also been thinking about a fly over state one that is deep red and has no vaccine mandate crap and like minded people.... in Charlotte, 99% of my friends and family are like minded too.
I do own a small online business that does ok enough, I'm not rich by any stretch, very much middle income, wife stays at home and we both raise our son, so we could really move anywhere.
Would you guys recommend staying near family and friends, or moving in the middle of the country, or is staying near friends and family best even if that puts me closer to a big city and NC's vaccine and mandate shit? While not worried currently, my business did have the worst year since I started this year, so it's not guaranteed I will not have to be employed at some point... so mandated vaccines could be an issue.
I value the thoughts on here, so any advice would be wonderful.
Annyeong my Korean friend....if I had a choice, being from Ohio, at this time, I would choose Florida because of Ron DeSantis' policies on many things, including the vaccine. I can not think of another Governor in any other State that has been as outspoken and 'take-charge' to protect his Florida residents than he has. I think when you know he his hated by both Biden and Fauci, that's where you want to be!
Yes a friend of mine wants to go to Florida also, I just worry that Florida is hanging on by a thread... I feel like one democrat governor and that is a wrap on how great it is there...
Plus.... hot... I hate the heat :P But being here in Daegu South Korea I could maybe handle it :P
Fla is a for sure pick. Texas too. Both are free and jobs galore
East TN my friend. Very close to Charlotte as you know.
Everywhere is gonna have vaxtards but so far the Covid fuckery has not been forced on me, and most people seem to see what’s going on.
Plus it’s relatively inexpensive and beautiful.
Never thought of east TN actually, I might look into that, I do know the area, I use to drive out to Gatlinburg a lot
Blount county and Sevier county would be my vote
Trust the expert!!! I just told OP the same 👍🏽
I understand the desire to be close to family, but I don't think I'd trust NC as a place to move to. I know a guy who lives there and he's always complaining about the Dem governor (which he was got there by fraud) and being surrounded by liberals (he lives in a city, though). Personally, I wouldn't feel safe even living out in the country because one could still be impacted by leftist policies as long as the Dems run the place.
I'd go to a fly-over red state. I live in a very red, very rural county in SW Missouri, which never had mandated statewide lockdowns nor statewide mask mandates. Business in my local community pretty much went on as usual, though a couple stores recommended masks and made their employees wear them, but about 3 or 4 months ago all that stopped and now I hardly ever see masks in town. We have an R governor (he's a bit squishy though). Our AG is an R and is a tiger. He's been filing suits against the mandates and has won a few or at least gotten injunctions (haven't heard of any that he lost yet). I'm not trying to sell you on Missouri, as other red states are equally good. I'm just trying to give you a flavor of what it's like living in a red state.
I raised my 3 children in NC. Retired over the mountains in east TN. It’s God’s country man…you already know this. I agree staying distant from Charlotte-Atlanta corridor… Kinda pricey around Asheville but between there & Charlotte you could find your dream home. Get outta Asia Brother. 🙏💕. (East TN is kinder than NC tho)
Psst, hey, important message for you!
Look into York County, Lancaster County, and Cherokee County - all in South Carolina.
It'll put you maybe an hour away, tops, from your close family in Charolette, closer if you choose a good location. You also won't be at the mercy of the corrupt North Carolina government.
There are a lot of great options alongside Catawba River and Lake Wylie... If you can afford them... and you may ever be able to secure enough property for some of your family to join you. I always encourage extended family living because pooled resources are a great thing.
Mid December to January would be a good time to start buying. If you ever want to sell in the future, shouldn't be too hard. If Trump isn't in the White House by next winter, do it then at the absolute latest. Any further and you might miss the boat. Summer may be fine too. We'll just have to see.
You're welcome :)
Everybody is saying FL, but TN actually has legislative body that is pushing anti COVID measures and a good governor too. East TN is the reddest, don’t touch Nashville or Memphis
Sounds like your kiddo stays home. If you plan to homeschool may want to consider that as well.
If you are emotionally close to your family and they are like minded, I would tend to suggest you be at least somewhat near to them (within an hour or so.) Family support is invaluable and not easily substituted or replaced. But if you fear NC has mandates, perhaps you could pick a close state -- maybe eastern Tennessee. Let us know what you decide. And best of luck with your business and your precious little baby boy.
Florida
Columbia, MO
Seriously? I heard it was little San Fran --
Isn't that city basically run by the local university at this point?
