My husband, a CDC virologist who was much older than Sherif, was a close colleague and mentored Sherif when he began his career at the CDC. Sherif was a brilliant scientist and never was there a kinder person. He exemplified what it means to be a gentleman and a scholar. Sherif's humility belied his keen intellect and unbelievable work ethic. The world has lost an amazing person who truly impacted everyone on the planet in one way or the other.
