So, what you’re saying is, Bush, Obama, and Clinton can’t assert EP either now. BRING ON THE SUBPOENAS.

Well Played 45. Very Well Played.
Agreed.
It seems that way for sure.
I was thinking this earlier today when I saw the court ruled he must turn over documents related to Jan 6th. They will not find anything and now it opens up the same treatment to prior traitorous Presidents. Enjoy the show.
What makes you think they won't find anything? He had a very busy day.. they will undoubtedly find some connection they can capitalize on.
Because every move by Trump was calculated. He did everything by the book. How many times did they try? Taxes, quid pro quo, impeachment x 2, nuttin and they will not find anything this time either.
His private communications don't have to be illegal for them to be useful to his enemies.
While true, it is a calculated risk. Surely they could find something, but the Pandora's box it opens is huge
Bring it on!
Trump has nothing to hide, although he always fights like he does. When the Left wins, they find out they wasted time, energy and money for a nothing burger. The money they could care less about, because it is the taxpayer’s, not their’s.
The fact that he has nothing to hide is moot. It still opens the door for " looking for a crime to charge him with " vs. getting evidence to support a known crime committed. You may have nothing to hide either, but no one has the right to just search your house looking for something to throw you in jail over. We have laws for reasons. How long until every conservative gets his house ransacked by a police state looking to imprison political prisoners?
Secret pardons anyone??????
EP is a privilege of the officeholder. If Trump is not president, and does not hold office, then he cannot claim indefinite EP. However anything from his time as president is protected. Same goes for every other president. What the public really needs to know, is what former presidents have done and are doing since their presidency, as far as treason is concerned.
Good observation. They shouldn't. Once out of office, they are private citizens like everyone else. It would appear that their access to such information would be for a purpose...
Off the top of my head, I don't recall the phrase coming into prominent usage until the modern era, maybe turn of the century 1900, Progressive Era at the earliest.... can't think of any presidential inaugural or farewell addresses that used the phrase "transition of power" or "transfer of power".
If you use a search in Google books, there's not much from 1700-1900

I hate the phrases. The focus and purpose of government shouldn't be "power" but responsibility and public/civil service.
OP is right. The precedent is EP protects anything that happens during the Presidency. The Judge is wrong. And knows it. This is more Activism from the bench, ignoring laws for the sake of their ideology
Was there an attempt by bush, Clinton or Obama to claim EP that I am not aware of?
Not yet, but if 45 decides to declassify, that won't be an option for them now
As this was an Appeals court decision, they could go to SCOTUS. Damned if they do and damned if they don't.
Can't wait to see POTUS bitch slap them! It's like the old days with POTUS as the roadrunner and his enemies as Wile E Coyote(s).
Problem w this is they dont care about their hypocrisy. They are 100% willing to make up the rules as they go to benefit them.
Sure, it why wait until now instead of while he had the power of the justice department?
How is keeping JFK records secret in the best interest of the USA?
