Canola oil (3rd ingredient) is one of the worst "foods" you can put in your body. Most seed oils (usually called "vegetable oils") are bad for you, and they're everywhere.

This is from Food: What the heck should I eat? by Mark Hyman, MD. -- Pp 169 -170 in the hardback edition [minor edits for clarity, and bold added by me]

FATS AND OILS: What to eat

  • Organic avocado oil
  • Butter from pastured, grass-fed cows or goats
  • Grass-fed ghee (clarified butter)
  • Organic virgin coconut oil
  • Organic, humanely raised tallow (beef fat), lard (pork fat), duck fat, or chicken fat

Use these (below) raw, on salads or other foods, but don't cook them:

  • Organic extra virgin olive oil
  • Walnut oil
  • Almond oil
  • Macadamia oil
  • Sesame seed oil
  • Tahini (sesame seed paste)
  • Flax oil
  • Hemp oil

Avoid:

  • Soybean oil
  • Canola oil
  • Corn oil
  • Safflower oil
  • Sunflower oil
  • Palm oil
  • Peanut oil
  • Vegetable oil
  • Vegetable shortening
  • Margarine and all other butter substitutes
  • Anytning that says "hydrogenated"; it's poison
  • Anything else that looks fake

Have you ever heard of camelina oil? What do you think of it? It has the highest diverse Omega content, I hear, and has a higher burn temp than any other oil. I wonder why it wasn't mentioned if it wasn't by him in the book.

I've not heard of camelina oil.

I don't cook much and didn't really have any interest in food oils until three or four years ago when my cardiologist wanted to do some unpleasant sounding invasive procedures. Instead, I got serious about my diet and supplements, which lead me to cut out most vegetable oils from my diet, among other things. That's when I found that canola and other less-than-healthy oils are damn near everywhere in processed foods. Canola oil is cheap, so it's one of the most common. In my favorite local health food store, several of the organic mayo brands have canola oil as the number 1 or number 2 ingredient.

My cardio problems went away -- big change, actually -- and cutting the vegetable oils was, I believe, the biggest factor in that.

Yes, organic, extra virgin olive oil is generally considered good for you (although some say it's "neutral", others think it's exceptionally health-promoting . . . there's no 100% consensus on this or on most things) but don't cook with it; see the list in my earlier comment for what Mark Hyman, MD has to say about various oils.

MUFAs [monounsaturated fatty acids] are found in some unhealthy refined foods, though, like canola oil, which is refined and bleached with strong chemicals and high heat. It's so processed it has to be deodorized before it can be sold. That's not an appetizing thought. And it's not good for the oils. When you expose monounsaturated or polyunsaturated fatty acids to high temperatures, they become oxidized, or damaged. When that happens, the fat can turn rancid and harmful.

You'll find different opinions on canola oil when do to a search, and right now my internet is slow enough that I'm not going to do more searching -- I'd generally prefer to post some actual studies -- but you won't find any shortage of reasons to stay away from this oil if you look.

Most vegetable oils are highly processed from GMO, Roundup saturated crops - either corn or seeds. They are high in Omega 6 fatty acids that are funneled into the inflammation pathways. They are not heart healthy as the establishment, driven by Big Agriculture, tries to tell everyone. It is a lie. There is a difference between healthy fats and unhealthy ones - and they are not the fats the propagandists have been telling the public that they are. The average American diet is heavily tilted towards Omega 6 fatty acids that promote disease instead of healthier Omega 3 fatty acids. Omega 9, like in olive oil, is neutral. All fats are not created equal and @Narg is correct in what they post.
