NY’s most vulnerable residents are not moving into new construction. New construction in NYC is for the vastly wealthy only. These masters of the universe types aren’t scrounging through the couch cushions tying to scrape together money for the Con Ed bill.
Most vulnerable my ass. You have to pay top dollar to live in NYC so yea, more shock and awe misinformation. Let the rich pay more for their heating boo hoo
Came here to say that. The only thing cheaper and cleaner is geothermal energy, which prolly is not available in NYC. Of course Greenies are trying to malign it now. (Robbing mother Earth of its depletable heat. I am not kidding)
what about wind energy or hydroelectric? they will claim it is cleanest, although probably just supplies a small amount of the energy needs. They will run the generators with natural gas or coal, so really just a tit for tat. They fuck everything up.
Geothermal is available in NYC. It costs a bloody fortune. I read about a man that put it in his downtown Manhattan townhouse, went to enormous trouble and great cost, got it all up and running, and died shortly after. I’ll see if I can find some reference on it.
Copy and paste isn’t working, but the man, John Petrarca, completed the project in 2002 and passed in 2003. There is apparently plenty more geothermal activity happening and neighbors are freaking out about it. Shocker.
Another 'save the planet' vote by ignorant politicians. As power plants (as in electric generation plants) slowly convert from coal, they covert to NATURAL GAS. It is less efficient to use NATURAL GAS to generate electricity and then use the same electricity to create heat for a building. It is more efficient to use NATURAL GAS to create heat at the point of use. What happens when rolling brown outs occur like they do in Commiefornia.
Half the cost when natty gas is being used to heat homes. Imagine how much more expensive electricity will get when people start migrating to electric heating.
Who knew that all of those apocalyptic images of NYC that we've seen in the movies would be caused, not by a major catastrophic event, but by people leaving in droves due to leftist politics?
I’ve already started phasing out natural gas on my rental properties in NYC years ago. As much as we love how efficient it is, For us it’s less of a headache and I don’t care if the tenant has to pay more to heat their place. I don’t think we should be banning Nat gas tho, how stupid.
On the newer buildings and renovated apartments we use Navien electric heaters to heat water for baseboard heaters and sink / shower water. It’s definitely not as good as gas, but not having boilers and boiler inspections (which is basically a violation farm for NYC that costs us thousands each year) makes it worth it for us.
My home is heated by gas because I want the good shit for myself.
Luckily anyone intelligent won't be building anything new in that shithole until they get a plumber in to unclog it.

The masters of the universe OWN Con Ed.
That was my first question. How is this hurting the most vulnerable residents unless the new buildings are supposed to be for low income people.

I also remember reading that overall gas is far cleaner than electricity, but need confirmation on that.

Watt for watt they are more harmful. Nuclear and natural gas are by far the cleanest options we’ve got.
It takes more energy to produce a wind turbine than it will ever generate during its projected lifespan.
It takes a lot of energy just to produce the needed steel.

Yeah it costs a fortune to set up, but it costs hardly anything to run.

they won't be able to keep their electric cars, lawn mowers and bbq grills charged.
Burns cleaner than coal-fired power plants. It’s probably the best option for power save maybe nuclear.

And think of the stress on the electrical grid, especially if they bring in more electric cars as well... All the eggs in one basket.
What could go wrong?
A Coronal Mass Ejection? Slowly deteriorating copper networks? Incompetence? Communism?
Dont even need that ,just going to overwhelm the hydro coming from canada
Someone should rephrase this as "New York hates black and brown people." Then someone will protest.
Who in NYC voted for this? The people, or the "elected" officials.
If you ban natural thinking, it's not always a gas.
Novel idea: don’t live in New York.
Who knew that all of those apocalyptic images of NYC that we've seen in the movies would be caused, not by a major catastrophic event, but by people leaving in droves due to leftist politics?

so their hot water heaters are electric?

Damn dude slumlord much
Hah far from it! But money saved is money earned, and nobody goes cold.
