This is described in 1984 so well, where the protagonist is tortured for saying 2+2 = 4. Finally, unable to withstand the torture he asks his torturer what the correct answer is, to which the government official answers "2+2 is whatever the State wants it to be".
Today 2+2 might be 5, but tomorrow the person answering 5 would be tortured the exact same way if the official answer is 6. That is what we are seeing with these mask tyrants and boosters and what not.

Honestly, the folks on the airplane probably lack the facilities to think critically about the whole thing. They are told the guidelines by their overlords and they enforce it no matter how stupid or dumb it is.
