Wait, whut? Rodney Joffee, the executive named in Durham's indictment, just happens to have a HAM radio license? Like Nelly Ohr did, too, remember her? Funny how they all have the SAME arcane hobbies, sending secret morse codes to each other? IN FACT, PEPE IS DECIPHERING A SECRET IN THIS ONE HERE!!!

Might be in a different language / alphabet.
Not legal but what’s that to stop a criminal?
In related news I've been strongly contemplating getting my HAM license and a radio in the event of SHTF real bad. though, if shit hits the fan in a far worse way than expected, I suppose the license would probably not be necessary.
Studying for my extra currently.
suggested resources? next local class is end of March and I want to be able to get a basic setup after I get approved
HamStudy app
This website. I mostly took a bunch of practice exams and reviewed what I didn’t understand. There are only so many possible questions you could get. I’m a lowly Tech.

Thanks for this. I bought an inexpensive handheld ham just for receiving if there's no other communication. Now I'm kinda getting the itch to take it up a notch.
I teach a review course for a certified exam in my field. A big key people miss is practice tests. Take several tests, do some review of weak topics, you can pass it fren.
if / when SHTF you won't need a license. You'll only need a HAM Radio.
All licensing is de facto communism. Freedom doesn't require permission from the government.
Why is this stickied? Because everyone knows this secret is true.... GAW Easter Egg here!
Amateur Extra lolol
There’s Amateur Tech, General and Extra. I’m a “low level” Tech
Takes me back to my highschool days :)
I love you, frog 🐸 🐸 🐸
Amateur Extra here, licensed 51 years. She is a Technician, he an Extra. She has very limited bands, mostly VHF, to communicate on. There is no Morse Code requirement for any ham license so why would she “communicate” via Morse? This doesn’t add up.
There are many Weak Signal digital modes that would be better for communications. However, the most secure is to try and find a public phone and call someone. NSA sweeps up all the cell phone conversations but I doubt they bother with the few remaining public phones.
That would only work if both parties are tied to the local exchange. As soon as it goes out on a fiber network, it's going to go through other exchanges, and quite likely hits the internet.
Do you know if she would have been able to transmit pictures? It seems like morse code would be kind of unusual these days. Maybe not. But embedding messages into images wouldn't be too hard to do.
NO CODE REQUIREMENT?
When I took my Extra Class I had to pass 20WPM.
I know nothing about HAM radio, but I’ve always been curious; what is so special about HAM radio that you need a license from the federal government to use it?
1.5 kW of RF power (it can severely hurt and/or kill you if you don't know what you are doing), frequency band privileges that span across the spectrum (you need to know where you can/can't go so that you don't interfere with licensed users like public safety, business, gov, etc), and that the fact that HF shortwave signals can go international (callsigns - part of which identifies your country - identify where you are from and who you are).
Extra class ham here. If anyone had any more questions, just let me know!
Did they use this to communicate during the election? He has a Phoenix address.
Might want to see if others in other key states also have HAM radio and if that was method used to stop counting at same time

NELLIE ORH HAM RADIO DECODE
Ohr, Nellie H, KM4UDZ 6435 Tucker Ave Mc Lean, VA 22101 Licensee ID: L02028239 License Class: Technician FRN: 0025607250 Radio Service: HA Issue Date: 05/23/2016 Expire Date: 05/23/2026 Date of Last Change: 05/23/2016 (New Systematic Call Sign Assigned)
Do they both speak Russian? ‘Nellie Ohr speaks fluent Russian and holds a B.A. in Russian history and literature from Harvard and a Ph.D. in Russian history from Stanford".
Might make sense for them to code in Russian so if signal is caught they could blame “it was the Russians!”
Interesting that he gets NK6S as a call sign issued in 2020. I thought all the good handles (short) had been granted.
That Pepe! Kek
That’s the highest license attainable, that allows complete access across all bands.
All HAM BANDS not ALL BANDS
Yes, mea culpa forgot to add just for - HAM radio.
Just so u know Extra Class is a lot of work to get that license. It’s something he probably had and just didn’t get just for the “nefarious” comms. It includes a Proficiency in Morse code at 20 words per minute and radio theory.
One of my nerd friends is a ham. He has some sort of program on a computer that I guess he hooks the radio up to. He has been able to communicate to random people in Africa from the US. It pretty much works like text messaging.
Duuuude I'd love to hear more about that
I don’t know what program he was using but this it might’ve been something similar to what is referenced here. The title of the article might have some bearing on why these people are getting ham licenses.
“Ampegon Group encourages use of shortwave for “secure data transmission and high-speed communications”
https://swling.com/blog/tag/shortwave-digital-messages/
A ham radio license he held for only three months?? Any more info ANYWHERE? Otherwise, what’s the point?
I believe it’s 10 yrs and 3 months
He’s had a license for at least 10 years. Information is available on the fcc ham radio license database. Look him up on there.
Then why post this one?
Maybe I'm missing something here, but why does a person need a license to operate a short wave communication device?
Is this just a government over-reach, or does it have to do with distributing the radio wave spectrum?
Great catch.
I am out of the loop on this one, from the start. anyone?
