Oh yes, very well. We were going to run out of gas, plus the next ice age was just around the corner. Vintage fear porn.
Wasn't the fear mongering of "acid rain" on the go then too?
They just throw "hail Mary's" hoping one of them sticks..
Yes. I lived in Dallas and we had even and odd days when you could get gas. Went by your license plate numbers.
Same in NJ. I remember standing in line with a gas can because my VW Beetle didn't make it all the way to the pump.
Same in California.
Rotating gas days based on license plate number
Oh look, Ted Bundy’s car! Or was it GWB’s? 🙄
And gas went quickly from 30 to 65 cents a gallon. End times for sure.
And then to a buck fifty. I remember right around 1981 a local gas station having a sale at .99 a gallon. The line was a half mile long.
I can remember putting 5 bucks in my 70 Impala and getting almost a full tank.
In 1980, $20 would buy gas, beer and cigarettes for a three day weekend.
Now you're lucky if you can but some bobble gum lol
Oh lawd my folks love playing this game.
Now I'm having to say shit like that to my nephews who have never spent less than a fiver for a single item.
Oh yeah. We were worried about gas going to over $1. That worry sold a lot of fuel efficient cars, like the pictured Bug.
I remember the gas stations had green or red flags out if they had gas or not, and lines when they did.
We had to get locking gas caps to keep from having our tanks siphoned overnight. Time to do it again; a friend's son's was tank siphoned last week.
Forgot about that. My father bought us all locking caps.
Yep hours in line to get half a tank of regular gas.
I was not alive
Same =P I wasn’t born for a couple more decades LOL
If you remember the 70s….. You weren’t there. 😬
Another Democrat (Jimmy Carter) power grab, 55 MPH speed limit enacted nationwide, and 18 year olds had to start registering for the draft again. Luckily Ronaldo Magnus Reagan was able to disrupt their plan much like GEOTUS Trump did in 2016.
Haha American petrol prices.
The first time I went to the US and I had a rental car, I thought there was something wrong with the pump. How can it be so cheap? I must have misunderstood the price? About three times less expensive than England. Wrongly assumed would be same in Canada, nope only two times less expensive. You guys have it made.
Depends heavily on the area. Folks in Cali are getting railed. Folks in the south like us are just now starting to feel the sting and we're in the heart of oil country.
Went by Sam's Tuesday, there were lines for each gas pump. I don't drive by there often but damn, I wasn't expecting that. I'd say 7 cars for each one on average. Gas was 4.19 on Tuesday here in eastern Mo. Not sure what it is today as it is rising every couple of days.
Same in Kentucky at Sam’s. Oddly, other stations were within a penny of the price with no lines. Is there something special about Sam’s gas?
For a real answer it's that you get a discount for using their gas pumps if you are a member. So it can be similarly priced for non members but you'll get the best deal around as a member.
Yes - you can only pay for it with a Sam's Club membership card, duh.../sarc
I should become a member so that I can wait in line an hour to save .30 cents.
Very well. I had moved up from beetles though.
