It wasn't "dissed," it was just reclassified as a dwarf planet. I don't see why people think this is some "attack" against the way things are. Science changes when newer information is available, right? There's a good number of celestial bodies out past Neptune that are close to what Pluto is. In fact, Pluto is even orbited by another body called Charon that is nearly as big as Pluto is. Why isn't Charon a planet then if Pluto should stay a planet? The newer classification of dwarf planet allows us to clarify and organize a good amount of other celestial bodies in the solar system that are just too big to be asteroids, they may not be moons, but are too small to really be comparable to even Mercury, a tiny planet. It makes complete sense to clarify Pluto as a dwarf planet, and people get upset just cuz they don't like to learn and understand new information, or they think the way things were when they were kids is the way things should stay forever.
Americans in particular were pissed because it was discovered by an American astronomer. The guy who pushed the vote to degrade it, which didn't even have everyone in the IAU in the room at the time to vote, is Neil deGrasse Tyson and he's a major globohomo. He blocked me on social media when he talked about "science-deniers" being against mask mandates and I pointed out that he did a whole episode of Cosmos that involved scientists who were paid off to lie to the public.
I felt like it was an engineered distraction at the time.
Scientifically, many things are classified very differently than the common vernacular. So when Pluto made the headlines, I had this sense that something else was going on.
Think of it this way. If we had to acknowledge outer planets by name that would increase the number of planets. Mustn't be. Have to cap the total number of planets, maybe even deny Pluto. Only the 8 classical planets are permitted (even though Uranus and Neptune were only discovered by telescope).
This what happens when specialists think they are the Tidy Tyrants of popular knowledge.
When I was a kid, we had 9 planets and I'm sticking to that.
Me too ... 😂 so many don’t arrrrrrgh.
🐸👌
My very educated mother just served us nine pizzas. 😁
People were mad when Pluto was dissed.

Fuck off you degenerate Pluto hater.
