Ive started my masters degree then moving to phD in psychology to become a CHRISTIAN conservative psychologist. These poor children are going to need a lot of help coming out of this. Pray i get scholarships, because grad is expensive. Im going to start a family psychologist practice with christian values. When everything hits the fan, theyre going to need help from a professional. Especially the ones that have been asleep too long.

There is more wisdom through the Holy Spirit guiding you through His Word than all the philosophies of man
This!
I know I know college bad but guys, this absolutely has to be done to help the ones with broken minds coming out of this. There's no way to avoid it.
And if shtf before I'm done which I'm sure it will- I'll be mostly done with my masters anyway and in a position to help. Bartering, etc. These kids are going to be emotionally broken and while I wont be able to help all, I can help as many as I can.
I agree. I've always felt the need to help people, but my good intentions would be nothing if I hadn't actually become a nurse. Not saying we all can't help each other, but some things need qualifications.
Christian and Psychology are not compatible. Christian counseling w/o the junk science is superior in every way.
Psch degree here. Totally agree. Psychology focuses on self and self-betterment and is very humanistic.
BUT if you can get your psych doctorate without being brainwashed and keep your spiritual paradigm in line, you may be able to lead people through the truth without them having to go to a Christian counselor, something they might never go for.
Now that is a goal worth praying for. I pray you get some like-minded associates because you'll need them. And as you are studying, remember all the BS "studies" that drive the world--get good at research and statistics because that's how the professional battles are fought, whatever field you end up in. Bless you for this noble aspiration.
Don't say it's bad. Think of Q's direction...
Something along the lines of Never leave the battlefield. Colleges should be definitely considered a battlefield.
I just know I have to help these families and children through this.
Your efforts will be needed. I've thought about getting a PhD and teaching "Q Theory" at the collegiate level....if anyone would hire me. Give it a few more years.
You don't need a PhD to become a psychologist, just your masters. Stop while you're ahead. If you want to focus on actual therapy, be Christian-based, and not just a pill pusher, there is no need to go for a doctorate and become a psychiatrist. Just my $0.02. Get your LMHC license along with your masters degree and you'll be just fine.
Good for you! Try your best to take out no loans. ;)
I had a blessing of having a great Christian cognitive therapist years ago. She helped me so much. I wouldn't be who I am if she hadn't helped me through and of course our Mighty God saw fit to set me up with her. If she could see me now!
You’re being called by God, it will be a blessing to have you in this position. I pray for your success and well being.
God Bless you! A noble pursuit. We need more people like this in the helping professions. I will pray for you.
Psychology/psychiatry is pseudo-science at best. I put no stock in it at all, just con-artists with a license. Simply teaching Christian values and His Word are the cure. There's no such thing as a Christian psychologist.
Remember the Savior and everything else will take care of itself. Remember that Jesus is the Christ and you will remember:
Psychology and Christianity are two differemt religions according to my Christian PHd pal who is one. He rejected the psychology portion 15 years ago. Maybe just study the Bible and what it says about the mind.
Renewed mind
U got it buddy
All I have to say is : excellent :D I hope everything goes your way, and you end up being able to help folks that need it. God speed.
May God bless you on your chosen path and may you be able to help many in need, fren.
Godspeed.
These are the true warriors for Christ, our culture Western chauvinism. Keep fighting, stay sharp, seek out conflict to harden your sword, and remember you have brothers and sisters in the multitude out here.
Will definitely pray. Just know, that is this is God's will, NOTHING can stop it.
I'm working on the same thing. I will have my B.S. here soon and will then be moving into my Master's. Good luck on your next phase of schooling.
I'm considering quitting my software engineering career and getting qualified as a psychologist too... because of the VAIDS dark days ahead.
One way or the other, it's definitely a field with job security for the foreseeable future.
It's worth noting, though, that graduate school is going to be both an expensive and work-intensive method to get where you're going, and from what you've described, I'm not certain there aren't easier and cheaper ways to get there.
For instance, many religious people tend to prefer their pastors and priests to formal psychologists for psychological and spiritual wellbeing. That makes sense.
Becoming an ordained religious leader usually requires a graduate education, but some also allow for a bachelors. You'll have to do your own research into what your religious institutions would want for their ministers.
In fact, there's even formal education you can get in pastoral counseling, which is applying therapeutic techniques as a religious leader. This is a Masters degree, if you're still set on going to grad school.

Certainly not trying to turn you off from going into psychology if that's what you want. The field always needs help from diverse perspectives. But given your apparent misgivings about the financial side of things and your desire to serve as a religious mental health professional, it might be worth considering whether something else might fit your dream more closely.
