Alright right now we live in an apartment unit, now we have been living here for decades and are considering to move for a lot reasons. But today we just this supposedly new technology and what I didn't expect or know, it seems this new and updated thermostat was made by Google at this point. How do we know the guy told us this when installing it and basically everyone is getting one in the building, at this point you know where I am getting. The design makes it seem like some transmitter if not some device to spy on you hidden in plain sight, wouldn't surprise me (((they.))) are doing this for their deprived agendas. But to use such as a subtle disguise, bastards are pretty much asking to be hanged for violating our privacy and much more without second thought.

any device or item that traditionally doesnt require wifi to operate is designed to spy on you
The guy also clarified it can also be used by our phones if there's any internet connection like if we're out and want to turn it on or off digitally. But it can still be used physically, but from this point on we have no privacy unless we cover it up because we don't really use the AC or heater unless the time comes whether it's summer or winter.
Build a Faraday Cage around it. Might need to unscrew it from the wall to get the mesh all around it. But you can use the cage to block out the RF energy in or out.
THIS (FARADAY CAGE/
Or some neodymium magnets.
Yes that's always the argument for these things, just sacrifice a little privacy for convenience.... I'll say no thx, I like my analog devices....
Get the make / model # of the thermostat.
Go online and look up the wiring diagrams / repair manual.
Find the parts where it shows transmitter, receiver, communications ... and then disconnect those parts.
It shouldn't affect the way the simple thermostat works, but may just disable the parts you don't want.
It doesn't have to be all that nefarious as to having a full-on bug-set in the device to spy on average people. That's too costly.
No, all they have to do is declare air-conditioning and heating a threat to global climate and turn off your ability to heat or cool your home by turning off the device remotely.
There's no need to spy on you if they can simply make your life a living hell ruled by policies you have no say in. You'll do whatever they say just to turn it back on.
This. I find it hard to believe that there are cameras and microphones in everything. If you carry a call phone or have smart speakers in your house, they’re already listening.
Yup. If you have a smart phone, why are you worried about your thermostat spying on you?
You already gave up your privacy long, long ago.
I don’t think some of you get it… the more data points, the more coverage, the more they can map your behaviour.
A few sensitive microphones they know every action you take, they know where everyone is within the unit, likely even the complete layout of the unit.
A human doesn’t even look at it unless it’s flagged. An AI will look at your behaviour, comparing to a mathematical model that gets more accurate with more data. They’ll plot your behaviour, control every aspect of your life subtly and use force in the areas they fear you the most.
You'd be surprised...

Yes, in the last 6 months or so, my local utility company, (which is a very large semi-monopoly in my state) had been emailing and snail mailing us for months to tell us we qualified for a 'free' smart thermostat. Yippee! But... I have two regular digital ones installed by an electrician that work just peachy. Why do I need to have remote access to my thermostat? I mean it knows what it's supposed to do based on how I set it up, because that's what its job is, right? Of course that is right.
Plus, if I have remote access, you know they have remote access and, I don't like that at all.
NO THANKS.
Don't connect it to wifi.
This is similar to what Amazon is doing with the door cameras. You paid for a camera not knowing that it would be a node in their network. They now have a huge network that they can do anything they want with, and we paid for it.
It's probably a smart thermostat so they can turn off your heat when they want to.... You know when you're being a bad citizen.
Your social credit score has dropped too low due to spicy memes.......your heat is now turned off
who owns the data? whats the device connecting too? is the device wifi enabled? couple of thoughts about connected devices, 1st, if you don't own or control the data who does, are there any contracts with said device? 2nd, what warranty does said device have? 3rd can you get to the device outside your wifi.(this is a huge red flag)
