As per the story of Joseph in the Bible, Gates means to do this for evil, but God means to use it for good. This is a case of the wealth of the wicked being laid up for the just. God is gathering things into piles for distribution, and Gates doesn't know a thing about it. In the end, all the assets this man owns will be taken out of his hands, and the land he is buying will be turned over to good people who know how to farm.
Agree with you. The fact that Gates is buying it and not some Vanguard or Blackrock (although I'm sure they're buying a fair share too) reads to me as a safeguarding of farmland, because there's no way Gates is actually buying it. He is either controlled or done away with.

I'm worried as well. You can see the concerted effort to strangle our food supply happening everywhere. The unusual amount of food processing plants that have "caught" fire is alarming. The avian flu may be a hoax. The railroads are restricting the amount of fertilizer they will transport. This all seems to be orchestrated. The way you control a population is fear and food. With Gates being a possible large part of food producing, we could be in trouble. His population control and pharma tentacles also give me pause. What if he were to put a virus in his grains? I don't want that man's hands on anything.
