My guess is they removed all the algorithms they used to shape the 2020 election, which includes the garbage regulating Covid-19 "misinformation", which likely has Democrats panicking even more about the mid-term elections than they already were.

All the shadowbanning and deboosting is being stripped off. The botnets have to go that they had boosting all their favorites celebs and approved politicians, etc.
The speculation that the feds had a role in their infrastructure, etc - if any of that is true, it's being cleaned up. The emails from Psaki or other Dem operatives from the WH asking for censorship, etc, all being cleaned up before the sale goes final.

Third parties pulling out bots would explain the Democrat's loss in followers, but not the Republican's increase in followers. I'm thinking these are internal algos that have limiting the numbers of followers for Republicans..and potentially maintaining fake accounts in support of Democrats.
Honestly, it's pretty easy for big tech firms to spot bot farms these days. I think this might have been some internal code that was removed before the code lockdown. It all happened at the same time on Sunday evening-ish, then subsided.
Sure it would. Theoretically, if you wanted to obfuscate the evidence of your botnet, you would do your best to keep account numbers at time of purchase as close as possible. Easiest way to do this is to reactivate suspended conservative accounts to compensate.
There are many people who were banned for posting wrong think (not for attacking other users) from 2020 to 2022 who have reported their accounts have been reactivated.
Mark Hamill reported he lost 8,000 followers and inadvertently revealed an approximate time frame when this theoretical change took place. It becomes even more apparent once you notice top conservative accounts saw anywhere from 2000-8000 followers added to their numbers during the exact same time frame.

I'm not sure exactly how far they rolled back the algorithm, of course, but I know enough about change management to know it has to be before the above date.
Based on my experience in IT, engineers would want to roll back to a tested, working algorithm as opposed to simply removing the changes they made to influence the 2020 election from the current code and possibly breaking something else in the process.
