Yes, the Las Vegas shooting was the predecessor for the inverted Talal. I didn't consider the Muslim practice of beating the soles of the feet though. This makes sense and reminds me think of the movie -- "Midnight Express". If anyone remembers this, the American imprisoned for hashish smuggling experienced the very same punishment. I remember thinking how barbaric it was. I thought the movie was really eye opening.
