Can a phone be pinged in airplane mode?
If you have any one of the 300+ apps that they mentioned, your phone can actually be pinged even when its off.
100% they can. And in the video the TruVote team even states that some apps do still collect data even when your phone is OFF.
I was in rural Alaska with ZERO connectivity, absolutely zero. But I'm certain regions if I opened Google Maps it would show me exactly where I was, and I never had download maps enabled.
Satellite gps is different than cell service geolocations.
Only solution is faraday cage or complete battery drain.
Get an old clamshell style phone where you can actually remove the battery.
Like me and most of my fellow network security consultants have been doing for the last 20 years :)
That's what I have. I refuse to use a smart phone. I'm already tracked from my Samsung tablet at home and my computer.😡
I think it's hilarious you and your "fellow network security consultants" don't know what a capacitor is.
But I guess, title an all.
It will be interesting trying to explain how there is something in this tin-foil hat idea after all!
You should market that. A tinfoil hat for your phone, with a picture of a phone wearing it and looking like he is enjoying his privacy. Buy a bunch of foil bags and a sticker making machine and you’re in business.
A cheap faraday cage us a foil lined potato chip bag. Just eat the chips and all the crumbs then put cell in bag and roll bag all the way up.
does this really work?
Yes it does, I tried it when I read a news article of a man who played hooky from work for 2 years before getting caught (on a golf course) by his boss using this method.
I couldnt believe it could be that easy so I tried it, had my ex call it, and it didnt ring, and when I took phone out of bag, there wasnt even a missed call reported by phone.
I'll mention 3 things (and don't ask me how I know):
The short answer is there is no way location can be determined if airplane mode is ON, because radio frequency is disabled, which I believe is the context for 2000 Mules.

However Google can still track using GPS. But I don't know if this is purchasable data and if it can also be turned off? Also it would reduce scope of devices to only those that are either Android or have Google apps installed:
