Fasting can be good.. but also doesn't help your metabolism.
If your problems are physical, you are either ailing or deficient in something (which can include sunlight) or your metabolism is slowed down and you can't get the burst of energy you need.
If your problems are mental, no amount of exercise or sunlight will do anything for you if the root cause isn't addressed.
Fasting isn't all that great for people who are already really lean (I mean like 10% bodyfat) or lower or when doing it for extended periods of time like a few days or longer. Why I said quick.
There's some truth to that, but physical training is a great road toward improving mental health as well. Training the body trains the mind. No amount of wallowing in lethargy or despair will help either.

If a person has a very high metabolism, then they are very skinny and should not fast unless they have a serious health problem they need to address. But then, they probably don't want to, anyway.
But fat asses are a different story. Fat asses have a slow metabolism because of their eating lifestyle, in most cases. Fasting can do a great deal of good in those situations.
And fasting means ZERO food. Some people claim to "fast" while just cutting back on calories. That is the worst thing a fat ass can do, because their metabolism will drop to match the low amount of calories, and they will not cut bodyfat. They need to go to zero for at least a few days to get the body to reset.
I'm subscribed to the raised by narcissists subreddit, and some say that because you're in such a bad environment, after however long of a time period of maintaining hypervigilance, your body basically tries to reset itself by sleeping a hell of a lot. It could be the person's environment as well - bad people make a bad environment, which makes a bad state of mind. I had that state and still maintain it, as my dad was a bipolar narc. One hour he'd be fine, the next hour or day he'd talk to you like you're a piece of shit.

You don't need to fast for days.
