What is this thread all about?
Just a place for general discussion. A place to unload whats on your mind and talk about anything - personal, health, help needed, achievements, daily highs and daily lows, theories, predictions and what have you.
Does not need to be Q related.
I may have some stomach issue: during the lockdown, I got used to skipping supper. I kinda like how it improved my sleep.
Then progressively, I went back to have a bit in the late afternoon and my back began giving me Hell again at night.
Yesterday, I vowed not to eat past lunch (I also didn’t before this sole meal of the day). I slept really well… AND my knee pain went away.
I guess my stomach pain was irradiating through my back and my buttocks which inflammated a nerve giving me the thigh cramps leading my knee to hurt.
Anyway, as Zappa said: « Anything over a mouthful is wasted. » or King Henri IV of France: « The great eaters and sleepers never did anything great. »
You should look into intermittent fasting. If you can fast 14-16 hours between last meal of the day and first meal next day, it supposed to do wonders to your immune system. It might help why your pains disappeared.
Some back (spine) issues radiate to buttocks and give joint (knee) pain too. May be piriformis related (sitting too much). Try the dead hang exercise - just hanging half a minute to one minute from bars.
Try boron tablets..removes heavy metals..one a day..they recommend don't eat after 7
Over the years I have found my diet, and eating patterns, greatly influences my joints and inflammation. Allows for much more influence!
However, early ignored traumatic injuries make today's knee replacement the best idea for that joint. Have been eating to not inflame going in to today's surgery, and will continue after for quick healing!
Gotta be able to stand and run in this war.
I shall pray for your quick healing!🙏🏻
I stopped eating bread and pasta and my stomach issues went away. I also do intermittent fasting which means I just skip breakfast and only eat at noon and 6pm. The inflammation has improved tremendously. I have a lot of orthopedic issues and the pain is 95% better. I thought all along it was a dairy problem but that doesn’t seem to be the case anymore. I’m trying to eat just protein, dairy and vegs and avoiding fructose, flour, corn and refined stuff. Maybe something like this might help you? I can’t believe how much better I feel.
I stopped eating bread, pasta & white potatoes and my bloating issues went away along with my headaches. Lost weight, but I'm back to eating bread sometimes (not everyday and not a lot) and I've noticed my headaches have started creeping back again. So seems like something in bread causes me to get migraines & of course I started very slowly gaining weight again. It's just so hard sometimes to figure out what to eat.
I wanted to reply, sorry for the delay. It could be the gluten in the breads or a wheat sensitivity. It’s hard to say. I have issues with breads, pasta, beer and so it could be gluten or grains. Anyway, don’t get too down about it because there are some solutions. I would eliminate all grains for at least a little while and sub some things (see below) to satisfy cravings. Also, red wine gives me migraines and so does chocolate in large quantities. They say aged cheeses can bring them on as well. So be careful with those.
Ok, so for the fun stuff- allow some substitutes for the breads and pasta. I was initially skeeved out by cauliflower substitutes but they’re not bad! I’ve had keto cauliflower pizza and waffles and look forward to them now. I just don’t have syrup. I use the waffle as a bread sub and only have one or two. A breakfast sandwich made from egg, cheese, maybe bacon with a couple waffles is great! I have it for lunch a lot. I don’t feel like I’m missing out. There is cauliflower pasta, too. I’ve never tried it but might soon. You’ll find these in the freezer section. When I have pizza, I only have half and pair it with a spinach salad or something.
I eat a lot of sauerkraut. It’s really good for you. If you have it with meat, it’s kind of like having a starch (mentally.)
I have salads with added almonds or pecans. Add a protein like salmon, eggs, tuna, chicken or steak abd cheese and you won’t go hungry.
I’ve made things like deep dish pizza without the crust, using ground beef as a base with sauce, cheese, toppings. You just leave out the breadcrumbs but make it like a meatloaf base.
I make biscuits out of almond flour. I found a good recipe. There are actually a lot of desserts you can make with almond flour. I’m not skilled in the baking dept. but you can search for those. Tons of websites for keto baking using almond flour. I’ve tried coconut flour and thought I had appendicitis. Be careful, the pain was real.
I use the keto friendly tortillas made with flaxseed when I make burgers or anything needing a bun, wrap, taco etc. they are 60 Cals but I cut one in half. It’s pretty good. They usually sell them in the bread aisle.
Speaking of bread- don’t buy it. Don’t have it around. If people in your house want it, get a bin or something where you won’t see it. Put it out of your mind. It’s easier if you don’t have it calling your name. Same with pasta. Don’t keep it where you’ll see it. I have lots of stuff like rice, beans, pasta in my prepping storage but none in my kitchen so I don’t see it.
I started cooking parsnips when I crave potatoes. Not too often but maybe once every couple weeks. Just cut them into 1” pieces, toss with salt, pepper and any other seasoning and olive oil and bake at 425 top rack for about 25-30 mins. So good. They aren’t 100% keto but it’s a good sub for fries etc. I cook a lot of Brussels sprouts this way and other vegs. You can just take a bag of frozen veg, prep it the same way and bake for slightly longer (35 min usually) and they come out perfect. With Brussels sprouts, I add some red pepper flakes and toss with butter and a teaspoon of honey after they’re almost charred in the oven. As good as crack. Which...I’ve never tried but I think it’s probably as good.
I have a ton of favs but check out a few links below and most of all, don’t get discouraged. It’s about making lifestyle changes, not diets. It’s about feeling better. Stay awesome!
My all time fav chicken is from hello fresh. https://www.hellofresh.com/recipes/pecan-crusted-chicken-6203c3d357b8e37e4638262a *skip the panko, it’s not needed.

Wow! Thanks for getting back to me with this abundance of great information! I have never had parsnips before, will have to give them a try. The only times I've eaten brussel sprouts is when they've been breaded & fried.
Yes, out of site out of mind for sure! I've always loved bread! Thought it was going to be terribly hard to give it up but wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Even talked my husband to try eating less of it, and he hasn't gone back to it.
If I have alternatives to bread for an egg sandwich that would be amazing. I feel like just one egg isn't enough to keep me till next mealtime. I will have to try cauliflower waffle as my bread.
When we eat hamburgers at home, we don't use a bun, season it before putting it in the oven or on the grill, we slap cheese on when it's done and put it on the plate like that, no ketchup or mustard or anything. Usually eat it with sweet potato tots. Chicken we usually cook it in a pan with a little water, season them and cover to let cook.
My husband is Puerto Rican so when he cooks, he will always make some rice. I just eat a little bit with whatever meat he cooks and half an avocado. Avocado is so good with rice. Sometimes he adds beans (red beans or pigeon peas) to the rice. I remember when money was super tight, we would make extra rice so we would have left over the next night and add like two hot dogs, scrambled eggs, a little onion. We just cook it all together, add seasoning (or add a little soy sauce) and bam that was dinner.
Thanks for the links, I will take a gander at them! Can always use some recipes to eat better.
I’ve got some ideas. I’m watching Peaky Blinders with a friend at the moment so I’ll write you later.
You're absolutely right keto and staying off of grains really does help your joints help you to sleep better improve your mood, check out the wheat belly movement. From Dr William Davis or grain Brain by Dr perlmutter
Thanks, Fren!🙏🏻
I am actually doing Keto and also getting back to OMAD. The last 18 months, I was doing AF with no breakfast (16 to 20 hours gap). Even a snack will kill my sleep.
I hope you feel better.
I do, thanks, Fren.🙏🏻
But I shall be vigilant and realistic: It’s just been one night, I will follow up with my fasting during the week and hope the situation solves itself definitely so. It sure will be difficult at first.
