Lots of speculation here. Will it be a dirty bomb? A Hollywood production? Something exploded underwater? Will it be in DC not NY? I don't know and neither do you. Maybe those dollar folders do.
I live on Long Island, NY. Get out! you say. Really? What do I do with the contents of my house? What do I do with my house?
I've been stockpiling all the right things and growing a garden. Just like I did in 2012 before Superstorm Sandy. Guess what? All my preps were destroyed. House gone and everything in it.
We watched the twin towers collapse together.
Background: I am 70. My husband of 35 years died of covid in January. It is a blessing that we were able to start over in a home that allowed my son and DIL to live in an apartment on the second floor.
I've been looking at properties in SC and I can swing another home there but just barely as I watch the deferred comp account my husband built over years laboring in a sewage treatment plant dwindle. I feel a profound sense of stewardship towards these and other funds he left me. But you say fiat will soon be worthless.
And another concern is my faith. I am Catholic. The south is overwhelmingly Baptist.
So, wise speculators, what would you do? Live in fear? Act rashly? And what about my dogs? Or just keep living until the flash bang or tidal wave comes?
If I lived on Long Island, NY, I would personally stay put.
From the warnings NYC has been giving, whatever is coming won't be a full nuclear detonation, nor will it be an EMP (which would destroy NYC's electrical grid, computers, communications, etc...).
What they seem to be warning about is likely a dirty bomb, as in a large showy fireball and some radioactive fallout thrown in so that Russia can be blamed.
Chances are, on Long Island you are about 35 miles East of NYC, and you get plenty of clean breezes from the ocean that will quickly clear the air of any bits of radioactive dust (if it's even real).
I would just get a few bottles of Iodide tablets, to protect myself from absorbing radioactive fallout, store a large amount of bottled water... and stay put.
People from NYC will either shelter in place... or Millions will make a mad dash for safety. In any case, they won't be going EAST. Not one person from NYC will try to flee East to Long Island.
Anyone that wants to loot, or cause any problems in NYC during the chaos will have ample room to do that. They know the consequences of trying that on Long Island. The trouble spots will be In NYC and West of the city.
Whatever happens in NYC, the National Guard will be set up on major roadways and bridges in order to lock people down or to get them to evacuate West, North or South. That same National Guard will prevent any traffic from going East... unless they can show ID proving that they live there.
After the event is over, and for at least a few weeks afterwards, you can enjoy peace and quiet (and occasional helicopters flying over).
I'd stay put. If NYC is "attacked", every other major city in the nation and every other state will be on high alert. Chicago, Atlanta, LA, Houston, Boston, etc... will all lock down and people will be required to stay home. Just because you went to SC or anywhere else doesn't mean you won't be under the same lockdown orders there as if you just stayed in Long Island.
We all know the whole incident will be false-flag crap. Let people run around and play their games. Meanwhile, I would stay home, enjoy the weather, let the dogs play and not worry about it too much. The last thing I would do is to flee to other parts of the U.S., where the chaos will be happening but where I don't know the neighbors or the surroundings as well.
I've seen people use this online NukeMap before to see the impact: https://nuclearsecrecy.com/nukemap/
There is a setting to see the impact of a smaller detonation.
I have no advice as whether you should move or not but if you were to move you shouldn't worry about being Catholic.
When I lived in the south folks seemed more concerned that you went to church vs which church you went to. Support their bake sales, rummage sales, holiday bazaars, etc. and they REALLY don't care which church you go to :)
As a Catholic with Catholic relatives in the south as well as Baptist relatives, The Baptist concern is confusing and seems like a non-issue.
If you are 70, then you lived through the cold war and a nuclear threat shouldn't get you this worked up. If you truly want advice, cherish the time you have with your remaining family and squeeze every ounce of happiness that you can out of this world, whatever that means to you.
A welders helmet for the flash bang. A “Scuba Steve” for entertainment. And McGruber on speed dial.

Trust yourself and your abilities and trust the lord. Everything you own is just stuff. It can be replaced. If you need help, ask. Go down the beach and watch the waves comin. Enjoy your day and relax. It’s going to be ok.
SC native/ TN resident here...don’t know where in SC you are considering but you should think about East TN- your money will go much farther plus no state income tax plus retiree capital of the state-plus TN is a richer state with better benefits than SC... good luck btw the south is more tolerant than you think..,
I'm not a Catholic or a Baptist but I love the word of God. It tells you that we are in the world not of the world and it tells you to set your affections on things above not things on the earth. Live your life and save some souls before your earthly tabernacle is dissolved.
Why would there be any concern about which particular SECT of Christianity you and the others follow? My word, you're on what all Christians consider to be the "winning team": forgiven and going to heaven because of what Jesus did and allowed to be done to him.
Do you believe Baptists will pitchfork-and-torch you out of your home, tar and feather you, ridicule you at the grocery store for receiving Communion on Sundays? How will they even know what your religion is, unless you wear it proudly on your sleeve? If you are willing to do that, then you're ready for what comes,...which likely will be jack squat.
Bring your dogs down south and enjoy life.
if it were to happen, God forbid, there is a 100% chance that they blame Russia and throw us into WW3
How exactly do you fight that level of propaganda? NYC population is at 8.3 million people - if a nuke were to go off and even kill just 10% of NYC's population, theres no going back from that. Theres little we (anons, patriots, normies, normal citizens) can do to actually figure out where that nuke came from, let anyone convincing the rest of the ridiculously on edge world. Shit is FUCKED if a nuke goes off in NYC. Like, load all your guns, grab your bug out bags, and dip into the woods levels of FUCKED
Keep living until the flash bang of tidal wave comes. They may never come and you might just live out your life there without any problems at all. Sorry about your husband. I hope the rest of your life is wonderful.
underwater. They can do it however they can without it being seen and blame whoever they want.
Yes, there was talk of denoting one off the English coastline and putting most of England under a 1500' tsunami.
That would be a sight. 35 Million people in Britain all taking their monthly bath at the same time.
😅😝
I'd stay. Your son is there. That matters very much. I'm older than you are and if I was faced with choosing to leave family in order to feel safer, I'd stay close to family and pray for a hedge of protection around all of you.
I would never leave my son and DIL! Actually I told them to go on vacation and buy a house! He is the biggest blessing in my life
