Their were no fat people to speak of in that time...
That is not true. I was born in 1951 and I knew "obese" people. I traveled throughout Europe in ''72-'73 for 3 months and I was AMAZED that I only saw one "fat" person in that whole time because the Polish/Slavic community I lived in had many fat people. Believe me I long for those good old days filled with normal people even if they were fat.
I had a graduating class of about 150,none were fat by today standards. A couple kids were a little overweight, but none outright fat like today. older people, some were fat,but not that common. Most people in our area had physical jobs miners, logger farmer....... No such thing as a 44 oz big gulp.
Don't blame the big gulp, it's lack of physical activity. I drink a big gulp everyday and weigh 185 pounds. I also do Jiu Jitsu 3 times a week like clockwork.
There is a guy I train with who lost 160 pounds in a year and a half just training BJJ with some light weight training.
I initially weighed around 215......actually went down to 175 at one point which is lighter than I want to be and I actually had to gain weight to get back to 185 which is perfect for me.
People just need to get off their asses and break a sweat a few times a week, doesn't even need to be extreme....go walk a couple of miles every other day.
I think you're correct. Lack of physical activity. Too much time in front of a computer/phone/TV.
Exactly right! Also, the population's diets have gone to crap, too. Family's used to eat more home-cooked meals, but now with the mom and dad both working, take-out and restaurants have become more popular destinations.
It's definitely a combo of exercise, diet and media brainwashing.
