But its still fake, phoney and false. The spirit of generosity and goodwill should be for every day of the year, not just when you put up fairy lights and tinsel.
I believed in Santa too my friend. As long as you teach the children the 'TRUE' meaning of Christmas and the 'Reason for the Season' I see nothing wrong with adding the story of St. Nick aka Santa in there as well. There really was a St. Nick also. Once children get older, they tend to find out from their friends or older siblings anyway. Look at us; we didn't turn out to be a mass murderer because of it did we? I see no harm in it. God bless.
I agree, Bass. I LOVED Santa when I was a kid and it didn’t break my heart to find out he wasn’t “real”. When it was time to break the news, my parents explained it as Santa being the spirit of love and giving without looking for recognition. We never “saw” him, didn’t know him, but all year long he and his elves gave of their time and talent to bring a little joy to people around the world each Christmas. It was used as a lesson to give and love selflessly.
Kids were told about Santa since the 4th century. I think bad parenting is more to blame than a fairy tale that teaches them about the spirit of GIVING.
The SPIRIT of Christmas is real. Putting a face on it just makes it easier to explain and adds some fun and mystery. Lighten up, friend.

It is a season of celebration with a bit of fun for the kids. Chill out.
You can.
Its a lot more than that:

Not in my home. ;)
So why not teach both simultaneously? Let kids continue to have Santa while also teaching the importance of generosity and goodwill year round.

Bad parenting has made generations of ungrateful, spoiled children.

I think that has a whole lot more to do with shitty parents than it does Santa Claus or the belief in him.
