Michael Snyder wrote in 2011 the -- "The American Dream":
Back in 1969, a man named Herbert Krugman conducted a series of experiments regarding the effect of television on a person’s brainwaves. What he found was pretty startling:
Type ‘television’ and ‘low vibrational energy’ into a search engine, and it’ll quickly return the fact that watching a lot of TV is like undressing your mind and submerging it into a bath of negative energy. TV effectively numbs the left side of your brain and renders you helpless to your right brain which is incapable of decoding and critically analyzing the information being presented to you. Essentially, you go on ‘auto-pilot’.
‘Beta’ is considered a normal, awake state, while ‘Alpha’ waves are experienced in a deep relaxation or ‘daydreaming’ state. When in the Alpha state, a person is subjected to a passive learning experience with the right side of the brain at the wheel, leaving critical thinking skills behind.

Thus, everyone is put into a hypnotic state that author Wes Moore says, “produces highly functional, mobile ‘bio-survival robots.’” There’s a reason he dubbed television an “opiate of the masses“.
Okay, this is TV. I get it. But, what if people were just as affected by 'Smart' phones and even more? I just went into a Bar-and-Grill and no one there were talking to each other. They sat alone and paged through their cell phones as if it was their only world. What if the 'Smart' phone is the opposite of what it's called and makes you dumb? I'm telling everyone there's something wrong! We all need to socialize. Who's your neighbor? What's his interest? Does that person have knowledge that can help you? In my many years of living I have experienced extraordinary individuals who had skills and knowledge that got buried with the individual when they died. Every elderly person possesses a wealth of history, experiences, and skills we can learn form. I have been ranting about these damn 'Smart' phones for over 10 years. It's preventing a generation of people form learning from their forebears. I watch the kids gathering at school bus stops who never seem to interact with other kids like they did before. Them having "Smart' phones I have literally had to stop my car in the street because these kids were in the middle of the road transfixed on the content of their "Smart' phones. They acted like stray cattle that weren't suppose to be on the road.
Outstanding post! Couldn't have said it better myself.
A friend recommended an excellent book to me a few weeks ago entitled "The Psychology of Self Esteem". It's loaded with brilliant analysis and insights. However, what struck me the hardest was what the author said was the prevailing conventional psychologist/psychiatrist definition of a person being psychologically sound.
Are you ready for this? It explains everything in a tidy nutshell:
"Being well-adapted to the society/culture you're surrounded by". Oommph.
Think that one through in relation to the "society/culture" being rammed down our throats 24x7 (TV, media, movies, social media, smart phones, apps, public interaction, etc.) and it pretty much explains everything....
Everybody is "going along to get along" right into the pits of insanity...
Excellent information here..... I recall back in the 1980s there were 'hip' places that forbade wearing neck ties. If you entered the establishment, the risk of having your neck tie cut off with a scissors was the consequence. If places are defined socially by pubs and bars, why not have cell pone being barred from these imbibing establishments? Today, it's 'that bad', we need to again learn to socialize. I sincerely believe the great division with Americans today is the infatuation and addiction to 'Smart phones.
There's little doubt. I witness it every day in utter astonishment having nursed myself back to a burner phone some years back. The Facebook exec explaining the "dopamine hit" pretty much sums it up...
Morpheus, I'm glad you see this too. I often go out, as people do, to interact with people. Everywhere I go, including church, people are withdrawn to looking at their cell phones. In restaurants and cafe and pubs I see the same thing. Even when I "break the ice" when they are continuously thumbing and paging on their 'Smart' phones it is like the movie "Awakenings" that starred Robin Williams and Robert De Niro. They wake up as long as to respond to my spoken words and then they go back to sleep with the 'Smart' phone. IMHO, there really is a problem and it might be why this millennial generation is actually decreasing in population.
I honestly think it's the pressure from the dying middle class.
Solid analysis. Human interaction, human touch, etc. is a vital aspect of leading a healthy life. Withdrawing from both, unwittingly, and living through the smart phone virtual reality likely causes numerous psychological imbalances. It's almost as if, they are training themselves to NOT be as adept at dealing with what REAL life throws at them - aka "reality".
I happen to specialize in a health/wellness modality that suggests all dis-ease originates from unexpected life events that we're unable to quickly and easily cope with and resolve. Our psyche interprets our figurative thoughts quite literally and then generates biological changes in an attempt to help us better resolve these life events.
Thinking your theory through within the context of my world view, I can see two clear examples. First, the smart phone is an easy and welcome ESCAPE from having to deal with one's life issues. So avoidance of resolution, or my more preferred word these days, "INTEGRATION", of those life events that make us all who we are, leads to a "DIS-INTEGRATION" or fragmentation of their minds - i.e. psychological imbalances.
And second, and perhaps far more devastating, is that a life lived within the virtual reality of the smart phone causes these people to lack RESILIENCE under real world circumstances. What you and I experienced through our teen years and early adulthood shaped us into being resilient, capable adults that could more easily handle life conflicts. A large group of these millennials are simply not prepared to live as a responsible, productive adult as a result.
Thus, lack of resilience and/or avoidance of integration opens the door to a wide array of dis-eases that cannot be "cured" unless psychologically dealt with.
Interesting theory Tewdryg. You may indeed be onto something here. Now how do we convince the smart phone addicts?
Thank God someone else sees this. I don't think I could have expressed it as eloquently as just did. I read somewhere that better than 30% of millennials, ages 20-35 are living with their parents. Our friend's boy is 14 and the dad admitted to me his son doesn't have a single friend and that he is content with his world of playing video games and watching YouTube. My jaw dropped because they had him in Little League and soccer. It looked like he was getting 'out' there to meet people, but apparently not. I don't think he is the only one. Kids today are comfortable living indoors and playing video games. Crazt as this might sound, but are we seeing a generation of sociopaths being groomed by the 'Smart' phone and video games?
It's a reasonable hypothesis! I'm not so sure I'd label them as "sociopaths" though, more like unsocialized misfits. That's my general observation anyway. By virtue of avoiding social interaction, they find themselves being and feeling awkward in the social situations we all inevitably experience. They just "shut down" as it were.
Now, in fairness to the kids, what the cabal has generated in terms of normalized attitudes and behaviors (cultural norms) these past 25 years or so, is nothing short of insanity. So in one sense, these kids unconsciously see and reject what the majority has adapted themselves to accept as "normal/popular".
I see this in full clarity with my 20-year old nephew. He's a smart kid but can't find his way in this present world as he experiences the insanity all around him. He wants to be part of the popular crowd but regularly finds so many aspects of their behaviors and attitudes distasteful. He's trying to forge his own way forward but it isn't easy without peer support at his age. He's attending college, against his uncle's advice, but his experience is so far removed from what I experienced back in the 80's that I can't even describe it. The Covid madness is certainly a big part of that too. And yes, he's completely addicted to his smart phone and video games.
Sometimes I think a giant EMP, completely wiping our electrical grid and destroying all computer-based tech as we know it may be the only solution. I can't even convince my mother to get rid of her smart phone (she's also addicted to it as a simple and rapid communication device though - texting).
Turn off the television because that's where it's coming from
Ohh... It's afar more than that. It is the 'smart' phone that is far worse.
You are absolutely correct.
what if we uhhh use the smartphone/television to educate ourselves?
Dah.... Do you know how to improvise? Doi, how did any of us get here?
I sometimes think about my life before the Internet. The world seemed so much sharper and more interesting and beautiful. I never liked crowds or people much, but the world itself was enjoyable and full of new experiences. Just going to the library was a great pleasure for me, and the smell of the library made me feel happy. And I had actual hobbies. Drawing, reading, writing stories, playing an instrument, electronics, hiking, etc. Now, I have no hobbies. I do nothing with my free time but get online, either on my phone or laptop, and watch YouTube videos or check forums. And then I wonder why I'm constantly fucking depressed and have been for 25 years.
There's more to my problems than the Internet, and I certainly don't blame it for all the wrongs in the world, but the Internet has become a constant tool of escapism and a source of endless dopamine hits. And how much better is watching YouTube than television? You're still passively absorbing someone else's opinions, creativity, and skills, most often without ever questioning what you heard or attempting a skill you might have observed. Many adults are in this boat, even though we laugh at young people who are always on their phones.
And the result of this, aside from the majority of the adult population of the world having lost touch with what makes them happy and drives them, is that we all hate each other. We're pumped full of rage for anyone who doesn't agree with us, fed constant lies by the media, mentally bamboozled and twisted by whatever images a "content creator" chooses to insert into their videos. For me, it has led to terrible mistrust of almost every person I encounter. So I avoid socializing at all costs, beyond what I'm forced to do to stay alive. And so the evil ones win when we all avoid and hate each other. What's even the point of life if that is how we spend it?
In less than a hundred years, Western society has devolved into this. The USA has already slipped over the edge. Europe is toast. The rest of the world is no better, all addicted to technology and to their own base desires and selfishness. It's a battle that will only be won if we all change our individual selves and unplug from the "matrix" of endless mindless entertainment and escapism. But it is much easier said than done.
👆👆NAILED IT!
I couldn't agree with you more. This hits the bullseye. It's very good post. The internet seems to provide nothing but Highs and Lows. Some people have expressed the pattern seems to be 3 days of Low (bad news) followed by 1 day of a High (good news). Ever notice this?
Wittingly or unwittingly, basing the day on whether a comment or post gets responded to is pathetic. Yet, I'm sure this is the case with many. If the Internet were to be described, I'd have to say it's like a hole created to which people want to leave their mark. As time goes on this hole gets bigger and bigger until a person finds out they dug themselves a hole they can't or even don't care about getting out of. I had to turn it off and find a hobby to apply my passion to. For me, it was refurbishing machinery and refinishing furniture. I'm tantalized by getting out on the golf course, but haven't done it yet. I suck at golf, but at least I can walk the course and pretend I'm good at it.
You're right, the Internet sucks and it isn't even the same internet that it was years ago. Do you ever feel like the information there is all canned and controlled? Search engines only provide what is deemed politically correct. It's most likely the reason why so many of us ended up here. It's just easier to find information.
"rare"
The coroner better watch his six putting the truth out there like that...good for him.
"eight days after having his first jab" -- so considered unvaxed and probably mistakenly filled under a covid death to boot

It's just sad.
Why is it that looking at The Daily Mail is getting spammed with ads?
Why aren't you using the archived link or running an ad-blocker?
Which ad blocker that hasn't got an infection?
Not sure what that means?
If you're on an iPhone/iPad, not sure you can install one directly.
On an Android phone/tablet, you can install various web browsers. Firefox Mobile supports uBlock Origin.
If you're on a computer, uBlock Origin works in both Chrome and Firefox.
Your other option is creating a virtual machine on your computer or on a Raspberry Pi and installing a Pi-Hole. You can set the IP address as your DNS server on all your devices, including your Apple devices. Any device on your local Wi-Fi network will be able to connect to it.
I'll try this uBlock Origin. I am an old man and not that cmoputer literate!
