A very long time, its the bells and whistles that go out to get the new car itch going. Don't get fucked, a backup camera is worth 2 bucks tops.

Hubby and I have EVERYTHING paid off. I'm getting out of the rat race this year at age 60. I'm not worried - God is with me EVERY stop of the way! God Bless ya'll frens!
Great to hear! God Bless you as well.
What do you need in this life, really? If you think and reflect hard, all you need can be summarized as follows: A roof over your head, food and drink and clothing. Those are the absolute necessities. Everything else is extra. Work hard so you can have these without any debt. Be grateful for everything you do have.
We lead a simple life... No major debt...
Just checked my stonks. - not today.
I got put of stonks for the moment bc there is no reality behind most of what happens in the market rn
Very true,I'm in it to take down the banks and hedgies, and make some tendies in the process.
Also have a lot of silver for the same.
Informational war and financial war is all I can do.....
Yeah eventually I'll get back in but atm interest rates were higher than market returns so I used that capital to pay bills off
I always like Dave Ramsey but his total belief in the market, turns me off lately.
Buying some real money silver or gold is a good hedge against today's insanity.
Unless you put your money in GME. It’s beat out just about every major index in the stock market, and maybe even inflation YTD
I'm no longer driving, but back in the 80's and into the 90's, I was able to fix my own car in some situations. Water Pump, Alternator, Starter, etc... now it is as you say.
I just put a radiator in my 14 Avenger. I have expensive diagnostic tools but they help me do it better and cheaper. My $200 pressure test kit told me radiator was the issue.
View investment in tools as long term. That pressure test kit just paid for itself 1st time out of the case by quickly diagnosing the issue and allowing me to fix it myself.
My hand tools are long ago amortized but my specialty stuff takes longer and is often bought waaay ahead of time on a whim knowing "I'll need it someday."
I've recently been thinking if it would be wise for patriots to go back to the old fashioned, mechanical cars. I know nothing about cars, other than how to drive them, and wouldn't know how to fix even an old mechanical car, but I'm sure there are plenty who would and I'd like to have at least one of those to fall back on. What would you recommend?
Thank you so much for this information! Greatly appreciated. I think I might actually love an old, heavy 'steel' car. At least, for getting around locally. I understand the gas issues, but like the feeling and safety of a heavy vehicle. Not to mention that a mechanic could fix it without all the computer falderal. Anyway, thanks again.
Gotta watch tho for EMP purposes even cars back in the 60s had electronic ignition etc. My 68 Cadillac had a coil in the cap in place of points for example.
And even early 80s had computer systems. My 82 Cadillac had DIGITAL fuel injection with an onboard computer accessed thru the hvac head and my 84 Lincoln had a ford system pre-OBD that I can't recall the name of that would blink out codes with the check engine light when in use.
You'd have to go pretty far back to get a truly mechanical car and you also run into rust issues. Yes the engines were good but the bodies made them 100k mile cars. :(
Diesel is the way. Old diesels dont need an ECU and can be started in many ways, manual/bump start. I have a jeep cherokee xj diesel which is perfect for my needs although it is ECU controlled but still quite primitive by todays standards. It drinks just about anything and I havent used a drop of diesel in about 7 years. I collect used oil from local mechanics. However, this is not my primary daily but in a shity post EMP day, would be a blessing really.
Yeah was just throwing it out there because of how tech has been seeping into cars longer than most realize.
Ford processor, in the 80s. EEC-IV.
Yes! Thank you! Electronic engine control IV
I ended my debt slavery 16 years ago when I paid off my small ranch. I'm a minimalist...my house is small and I don't acquire more than I need to get along and be happy. I got my 4-wheel drive pickup in 1999...it only has around 55,000 miles on it and I plan to hang on to it as long as I can keep it running.
I am down to one credit card and a personal loan that paid off the other one but I had a lot of debt from divorce. :/
Have a couple of kids and you will quickly find that the same car you drove when meeting your wife, no longer meets your needs. Just saying lol
Yep, paid off the house 7 years ago, no credit card debt, drive used cars, always have and we don't have homeowners insurance either. Of course, our house is a small bungalow so that's why it's paid off. That damn insurance is ridiculous. They go by square footage which is bullshit because my house is 100 years old and if something happened to it, we'd clear the lot and sell just to get the hell out of here. They just want to give you replacement shit but we wouldn't replace.
Yep, good for you. Debt is modern slavery.
Buy older American cars. With at least a v6, and a carb.
Dont forget old diesels. They are much more suited in regards to simplicity and strength.
Good call
My grandparents always paid cash for a car. They were working class people. The difference is they saved money, had a garden, etc. They didn’t live beyond their means. Most adults over the last thirty years have been brainwashed into thinking they need more. More trips, bigger homes, new cars, etc.
Same here. If everything goes to plan, I'll be house payment and car payment free by the time I'm 35. Mortgage is up then, and I would like to get it paid off sooner if possible. Payment is already <400 bucks on my home so I'm not too worried
If I work my ass of I can get it paid off in about 5 years but I don't know if I have it in me to work that much and to be away from my child
Making progress is always good...
cooking your own food saves alot of money too
We're there. No debt, our house and cars are paid off and we recently retired except for running a small family farm. The rat race has passed us by. Good riddance!
Great to hear!
Been out of debt since '95. If I can't come up with the cash for it, I don't buy it. Wish I had an older vehicle, though my auto repair skills are somewhere in the 70s.
it also changes the equation when one needs to argue with one's employer.
Modest house modest truck for us and we should have the house paid off in two years.
Overall we are planning to live as lean as possible for as much as three years to get past this very sad point in history.
We saw this in the 70s so it's nothing new democrats always create crisis's to keep people scrambling and not paying attention as they rob us blind.
My wife and I agreed early on: modest house, modest car(s), get debt-free ASAP. With God's help, we paid off our mortgage in less than 20 years, buying cars without loans ever since. Interest rates rising? That doesn't bother us. Only wish I had bought more of our precious metals stash either earlier or later, but we didn't have a 🔮.
