It's not that complicated. It is a sin, end of story.

Their sin is no greater or lesser than your own.

The fact that some choose to celebrate their sin is horrific in my book. I struggle with my weaknesses on a daily basis. I'm certainly not prideful about anything that would be sinful.

We all have demons we battle. If you don't like the way you're born, be born again. Jesus basically said this life was not going to be easy. There will be trouble, temptation and bad times, but our reward is at the end of the race.

To God be the Glory

you are jumping though mental hoops in order to not say it, being gay and accepting of gays is against the bible, you cant be a Christian and be ok with gays, thats heresy peddled by a corrupted church, the bible even warns of such thing happening

the bible does not say that people should be put to death for gluttony or slothfulness, clearly the bible is more against the gays than other milder sins

im not religious, i dont really care what religion someone wants to be but it does really annoy me when someone wants to claim a book god wrote tells them how to live their lives or they claim they accept it as having some divine truth to it and then they turn around and ignore the parts of that book that are inconvenient to their word view

Me as well. However the OP has KIND OF picked an apples to oranges here. Leviticus is OT Hebrew law, and Matthew is NT.

I just read some of Matthew to my son tonight for bedtime story, and as we read about Jesus coming not to get rid of the law but fulfil it,I got the distinct impression that he was mainly talking about the commandments, not ALL of the Levites restrictions.

At least I hope I am right or I'm going to hell for trimming my sideburns among other things. Point being in my understanding the OT law was for the Jews and the NT and inclusion of gentiles changed some things.

He came to fulfill the prophecies to the Jews as their Messiah and that "stiff necked people" STILL wouldn't believe him so God extended his forgiveness to the gentiles as well as he did numerous times in the OT.

I studied a lot of the Jewish stuff as well but IMHO just because Jesus celebrated passover or whatever DOESNT MEAN I have to as a follower of Christ. He was doing specific things that should have verified what scripture and the prophets said and the Pharisees et al were so self righteous in their rules-lawyering for power and prestige that they had him killed

▲ 3 ▼
– Glooptygloop 3 points 3 years ago +3 / -0

Right. However he was dealing with the Jews...I mean by extending grace to Gentiles he kind of flipped the whole script. Like the ministering to the Ethiopian eunuch by Iirc Paul. A eunuch was expressly forbidden under OT law from entering the temple. And here Paul comes along and teaches the guy how to understand the words of Christ.

IMHO that's how I want to be seen if a gay person reads my posts. Not judging them but offering help with their own salvation if they are serious and want to understand. I will do my best

that's my understanding too, have to differentiate between OT and NT.

I also have found reading the section of the Bible referred to as the Q-Source to be very helpful; I think it's a form of Steganography, but not sure.

It's the common material between Matthew and Luke, and many similarities with Q drops.

the verse about the millstone is in the Q-Source;

Every law that Jesus commanded did not make the OT law easier or less, but actually MUCH harder. Example—not just adultery but actually looking at a woman lustfully is sin. So the only way to be holy is to repent, receive Jesus’ forgiveness, and then live in the Holy Spirit. To understand this, read Romans. Paul gives us a clear view of the paganism in his day (and now our day) and how to deal with it.

Yes, and interestingly these dietary restrictions when explored make a hell of a lot of sense for a preliterate nomadic people who lacked the techniques or knowledge to safely prepare them. Things like not eating pork when you realize trichinosis would have been an issue etc.

– Glooptygloop 3 points 3 years ago +3 / -0

True. Again this is OT vs NT. one could argue with the advances in dietary knowledge the eating restrictions are no longer valid.

There is also the dream where John sees all kinds of bugs etc and Jesus appears and tells him it is not what a man puts in his mouth that makes him unclean but what comes out of his heart, which is only in some Bibles but which tends with that interpretation to say that the old commandments on food are no longer needed.

I'm just making educated guesses here no better or worse than anybody else's. And it would seem to me like Jesus commandment to "love thy neighbor" would mean I would not approve of homosexuality but I wouldn't judge either.

Everyone has their own cross to bear and has to do what they have to to minimize sin. My cross might be porn or alcohol or whatever and it's no easier or harder for me than for a gay guy not to sleep with dudes. Work out our own salvation as it were

Right? Like all of the things God prohibited with commandments etc were actually REALLY GOOD PROHIBITIONS bc of what harm can be done by breaking them. Adultery, stealing, etc. However I think the levites took it too far with the sideburns thing but even the verses seemingly against tattooing make sense when you understand tribal nature of back then and trying to not follow in those footsteps

Having read a great deal of the Jewish holy literature, they LOVE their legalism. The Talmud, the Mishneh Torah, etc...all just giant lawbooks trying to cover every possible scenario

I think it's to study the words of Jesus, and that's why DJT is now a nondenominational Christian, just follow what Jesus said rather than a church's interpretation.

this might be helpful; outlines for the Q-Source AKA The Sayings Gospel of Jesus. http://earlychristianwritings.com/q-contents.html

Leviticus 20:9 says, “If there is anyone who curses his father or his mother, he shall surely be put to death; he has cursed his father or his mother, his bloodguiltiness is upon him.”

I'm no fan of the gays, buy really 99% of denominations are emphasis the verses you like and demphasize the ones you don't like.

How many churches allow women to speak in church?

Do women go with their heads covered in churches?

I suggest you read Romans. We are not to live under the law. If you try to gain salvation by part of the law OT, you must live by All of it. Salvation NT comes through Jesus the Christ (Messiah), son of God. He fulfilled the law for us. The only way is through Jesus.

Right? Leviticus 19:19 and Deuteronomy 22:11 condemn wearing mixed fabrics. How are we handling that? We still 'picking and choosing' around here? Leviticus 19:27 says "And Ye shall not round the corners of your heads." Should we be doing anything about that?

And so it goes.

What is the golden rule? That's where it ends, for me.

Don't forget Leviticus 20:15 & 20:16 either.

"15 And if a man lie with a beast, he shall surely be put to death: and ye shall slay the beast. 16 And if a woman approach unto any beast, and lie down thereto, thou shalt kill the woman, and the beast: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them."

Leviticus 20 is good old fashioned Jewish fun. These are rules for the people living directly under Moses. They are called: Mosaic Law.

Mosaic law quite literally isn't for everyone, which is apparent if you actually read your Bible. For example:

Leviticus 2:1 - "When anyone brings a grain offering as an offering to the Lord, his offering shall be of fine flour. He shall pour oil on it and put frankincense on it 2 and bring it to Aaron's sons the priests. And he shall take from it a handful of the fine flour and oil, with all of its frankincense, and the priest shall burn this as its memorial portion on the altar, a food offering with a pleasing aroma to the Lord. 3 But the rest of the grain offering shall be for Aaron and his sons; it is a most holy part of the Lord's food offerings."

I'm not advocating for homosexuality, merely pointing out context. But I was falsely accused of being gay when I was 12, I was beaten and bullied over it until I was 16, enough that it seriously hampered my ability to find a girlfriend and left me with PTSD. Luckily got married at 20 to a woman who agrees that the man is the authority of the house, day care is bad, homeschool is good.

My point is, commandment I'm the Bible almost always have a context in which they are placed.
