From what I understand, a judge doesn’t appoint a special master unless there’s an egregious reason to do so.
The DOJ won’t drop it though, bringing charges isn’t the point. The left needed a pretext for their talking points. The newest one is Trump shouldn’t be able to hold rallies while under investigation for violating the Espionage Act.

I think they (DOJ/FBI/Biden WH) will act like they will pursue this but then TRY to quietly walk away and let it drop. It's their MO - 1) Push something unconstitutional to see how far they can go (Vax Mandate through OSHA, Masks on planes, etc.) 2) When a court strikes it down - file a lame appeal (or just say they are going to). 3) Wait for the dust to settle from their last fiasco then 4) Start over at step one.
