And yet so many Catholics don't get it and continue with the religion of works, not faith, with so many proscribed, unbiblical practices. Sad.
If Catholics would notice their religion wasn’t Christianity, there wouldn’t be any Catholics.
They would notice if they read the Bible instead of the catechism. Most of the ones I know don't even own one, the catechism is taught to children.
Yup. I have sat in a Catholic Church. It felt like a brain washing service. Only the priest reads the Bible, everyone repeats Gods word, after each verse. It was fking weird.
Yeah because repeating words of praise and worship to God is “fking weird.”
I have sat in protestant Churchs and they break out the full rock concert laser light stage shows and big screen video's to induce some outwardly phony euphoria of the spirit moving you, as opposed to solemn internal reflection of ones relationship with God.
What do you think the catechism is?
(Hint: it’s the teachings and traditions of the bible and the church)
Your beliefs didn’t even exist until the 1600’s.
Who believes ? I’m a messianic Jew. My believes existed the moment the disciples accepted Jesus as the messiah.
In the Bible it does seem like James and Paul contradict each other, but as more understanding what they both are saying is that...through faith do we do our works for God. As we have faith, love and respect for the Father, we do the works out of love.
It reminds me of my Bible lesson a few weeks ago where it said “ a Christian doesn’t work “for” salvation, a Christian works “because” of salvation with Christ.
And obviously many people even wonder what are works. They think it’s helping down at the soup kitchen, lol. I mean it can be. But your heart. How you handle situations. How is your thinking? When you become saved in the name of Jesus Christ, it’s like God giving you a new heart. How does a person act now? They should be different.
Ok I’m rambling, but I hope anyone looking for more info about your Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, will do so. ❤️👍
The challenge for the Christian is to distinguish between a good idea/work and a God idea, so many good ideas are not God's plan for us.
Ephesians 2:8-10 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them. Most know the first part but never gat to the second.
The works are that which God has prepared for each of us as individuals, work within our capabilities/giftings. In the parable of the talents they were give according to ability Matthew 25:15 - the talent wasn't the ability is was the work God has prepared for each individual - arrives as opportunities, may or may not involve money. Some are 5 talent people, some 2, some 1 - but God only asks us to do the works He prepared for us.
When we succeed He delights in us, and we still get the reward!
LOL. Or perhaps the Church was overtaken by Jesuits. Maybe that's the greater problem than lay Catholics? Seriously, what is the intent of your comment? Who is your enemy?
What little sect do you belong to? Does it instruct you to always try wedge between good Christians? Is there a Bible verse you could point me to for such inspiration?
Here's one I have for you.
“That they may all be one.” John 17:21
I posted this reply earlier, but somehow it got 'deleted'...so I'll repeat it here.
Think about this for a moment....
Let's say you had a dad that was loving and very successful. He gave you advice the entire time you grew up, hoping that if you took that advice you'd have a great life.
Let's say you could repeat back every single piece of advice your dad ever gave you. That would only mean that you memorized what your dad said.
But when would you know that you believed the advice your dad gave you?
Only when you grew up and you were out on your own. If you lived the way your father taught, then you actually believe him.
Belief is acting out your faith. Memorization is fine, but it doesn't fulfill the requirement in John 3:16 -- 'When you believe in the Son, you are destined for eternal life.'
Believing in the Son is having been persuaded by God that what Jesus teaches is the best way to live your life. And if you have been persuaded of that, then you do live your life that way. In other words, your 'works' are your faith.
No one (except an idiot) believes that they 'earn' their way into heaven. It is a free and unmerited gift from God. But if I believe what God has told me, then I live my life that way. My works are indistinguishable from my faith.
Those of you who think that Catholics think they 'earn' their way into heaven are misguided. We don't. You simply don't understand what the Greek word 'pisteuon' means. That word, in John 3:16, means to believe, to have been persuaded, to adopt a worldview, and to live out that worldview.
Anyone who does not do that, does not believe...and therefore risks not receiving the promise contained in John 3:16. You only need to read as far as John 3:36 to have Jesus confirm it for you.
God bless you.
False! You catholic haters lack the one thing that is actually required of us:
Charity.
The bible you read only exists because of the catholic church which was started by Christ. One act you miss that is in fact required of us:
Repentance.
The church He created. Denomination’s were, I don’t think, apart of the plan. It does nothing but divide Christians. That, IMO, is the devils business.
I go to a Baptist church, but I would never call myself a Baptist. The church is all that matters. And church doesn’t require a building. It’s the people inside. If a person wants a denomination...then let Jesus himself be that denomination. Because He belongs to none of them. He is all of them. He is.
There is only one church that is not a denomination: the catholic church.
Baptists demy the sacraments that the Apostles participated in.
You are correct. Repentance and belief.
Theologically, they are one in the same in the following sense...
You 'repent' (turn around) and return to God's worldview (what he teaches), which is 'belief'.
See my (longer) response to undine for details.
God bless.
They are not one and the same. They lead to each other. Repentance is a specific act.
Agreed, they are distinct. That's why I said they connect 'in the following sense' -- plus I was trying to tie my the other post (about belief). Sorry if I wasn't clear.
Actually, it's much more profound the way you said it. They lead to each other.
I just checked. I can't find my first post (somehow it got 'deleted')...so I'll repeat it here.
It's in response to undine's original comment...
