My data got stolen by China from the OPM (Office of Personnel Management) years ago. But out of the kindness of their inept hearts they gave me free credit monitoring for 6 months. But we're not talking about just name and SSN, no. When these guys screw up they do it right. This included all information required for a background check for a security clearance, including fingerprints.
Holy balls. I got 12 months when Alaska election douches allowed my info to be stolen. After the year was up, experian lowered my credit score. I assume everyone knows everyone's info anyway. I just buy more precious metals.

I remember a training session about being alert to possible espionage. One of the cases they presented was a high level employee who passed on top secret information to China for 20 years. He was from China, visited every year. I was the only person who asked the obvious question, "How in hell did someone from Red China get a job and top secret clearance?" They wanted to know who my first cousins were and if I had friends or acquaintances from any foreign country, but they took 20 years to figure out this dude was a spy.
