There is actually good evidence that stone age man crossed the Northern Atlantic on the ice sheets during the height of the last ice age, when sea levels were lower and ice formed a full land bridge from Europe to North America.
Stone age man may have migrated from Europe to settle in Northern and Eastern North America up to 26,000 years ago. Archaeologists have found a number of stone tools dating back between 19,000 and 26,000 years, and bearing remarkable similarities to those made in Europe, including stone tools that match rock formations originating in Europe. One artifact is a stone knife unearthed in the US in 1971 that was made of French flint.
The Asian migration of "Native Americans" is dated back to about 15,000 years ago. When they arrived, stone age Europeans may have been here first, and would likely have still been present. It is very possible that the "Native Americans" either killed off the stone age Europeans in North America, or simply pushed them into extinction.
In that case, WE ARE THE INDIGENOUS PEOPLE. Those who claim to be "Native Americans" arrived thousands of years after we did... and THEY persecuted US. If anybody is owed reparations, WE are. They ought to be celebrating OUR holiday instead. :>)
People should read up on Kenniwick Man, Spirit Cave Mummy, and a half dozen other human remains that have been found. These remains predate the coming of the Asiatic Indians and they have been identified as Caucasoid remains.

As an American Indian, I say Happy Columbus Day!
Yo Ho Columbo!
Left out the final bit...:
Oh cabin boy oh cabin boy! That nasty little nipper. He lined his ass with broken glass And circumcised the skipper.
I identify Columbus as the leader of the indigenous peoples. The settlers are the indigenous people I celebrate
