Being unaware that the " new agey" meaning is juat ONE of many meanings can lead to confusion especially if it evokes a negative emotional reaction that interferes with logical, critical analysis..
For example, in the bible Christ, and others, ascended ie rose up. Christs Ascension is still celebrated each year by Christians around the world.
