Someone here said turkeys were horribly expensive where they live. Right now, Walmart has Honeysuckle White (I think they're much better than Butterball and have less sodium) for 99 cents a lb. Food Lion has Shady Brook Farms turkeys for 39 cents a pound. The store near me didn't have a lot left but it's a small store. Martins Foods (aka Giant in Pa. but not the same store as Giant Food in Virginia) has free Shady Brook Farms turkeys if you have 400 points in their rewards program. You can earn that many in one visit if you sign up and do two or three of their bonus points specials for the week. You can get another brand for $1 off if you don't want Shady Brook with your points.
Hope this helps if you're having trouble getting a turkey.
Maybe Blue states
I think you're right.
How kind of you to post this. Thank you.
You're welcome. I don't want anyone to miss having a big turkey dinner because it's too expensive. I think I'm going to spell FJB on mine using fresh thyme.
Lol! Happy Thanksgiving, fren.
Costco has plenty of fresh Butterball @ .99 lb here. Dated for sale through the 25th. Multiple sizes. Frozen for sure at Safeway and Fred's and Walmart. Prices depending on your food purchase amount. You buy $150 at Fred's you get it free, otherwise like .59 lb. Walmart had some brand for .89 lb. Not as many as I've seen in years past, but enough for anyone looking.
Be sure to pick up one of those monster $5.99 pumpkin pies too at Costco.
Right?! It's on my list for tomorrow. 😊
It's a really good pie and so big! It's much better than the smaller ones at the other stores and theirs are the same price to $1 more. I was also drooling over the tuxedo cakes and caramel tres leches cakes. But I restrained myself. They had monster pecan pies too at the Costco here.
Those tuxedo cakes are sooo good!
I know. My favorite. drool
Guess what? I spoke too soon.. today (Sun) at Fred's they are completely out of turkeys. I don't know if they will get more in.
They're cheap in Aldi AL, too.
I wish the Aldi here had dependable stocks. They're almost like Ollie's or Big Lots. They have a random selection of goods that changes every time you visit. You can't plan on making any kind of regular grocery shopping trip there. Half the store is home decor and other stuff. And a lot of the grocery items are either super expensive or things I've never seen before. I just go there occasionally to get some flats of canned vegetables, if they have the ones I need.
Some of their items are not consistent. I don't save as much money there with the inflation, so I go to other stores more.
Same at the Aldis here - not good for reliable stock and by the time I shop the sales at Martins and Food Lion, more expensive.
I buy a lot of food at Walmart, but buy certain things at Food Lion. Food Lion is our only real grocery store (four in town).
Love the Aldi!
Wife bought a 16 pounder at Food Lion here in NoVA today. Bigger and smaller available...doesn't seem to be any probelm
Safeway here in AZ for 79 cents/lb if you spend $25
Food Lion here in northeastern NC had store brand turkeys for 29 cents a pound. Even the Butterball turkeys weren't very expensive, and there were plenty of them.
I don't really like turkey. I'd rather have a baked chicken. I think we'll pick up a couple of those rotisserie chickens at Food Lion.
I love turkey but rotisserie chicken is good too.
They might be gone Wednesday, so we'll pick up a couple on Tuesday. They will keep till Thursday.
Wow 1.49 lb here...and they are all very large. People standing in over them.
Im glad i got my smaller one two weeks ago.
We get a free Turkey from Shoprite every year for members.
I just picked up my free 18 lbs turkey from ShopRite today. If you spend $400 between certain dates (easy to do nowadays), you get a free what is called a ShopRite turkey.
In Texas they were free at our grocery store for spending $50 on anything else.
