Absolutely Correct! I also wonder why we are called America. We are the United States of America. It makes me wonder if there is similar reasoning behind that nickname. Is it a psychological method to get us to eventually accept tearing up our US Constitution and forming a new country? ( and calling it America)?
Good grief. It is a shorthand. We call each other and ourselves "Americans"...not "United Statesians." I knew this much when I was a boy.
As for "democracy," I have become fond of saying:---
Democracy = rule by Democrats
I will throw it at any Democrat and say "This is why you always talk about 'Democracy being threatened'---because Republican victory means the end of rule by Democrats."
I know this is a bit of a jibe, but it helps to de-legitimize the term.
I think it has something to do with the "United" part, as that implies coming together, and that is 100% not what the deep state and cabal want us to do.
Well, “America” comes from the cartographer Amerigo Vespucci. His first name appeared at the bottom of early maps of the new country and people just adopted the name “America” as the country/region.
I don’t think it’s subversive to call us America. It’s not like any other country’s citizens consider themselves American and if they do, no one in common parlance uses the term to refer to a Canadian or Mexican.
I know this isn't going to win me any friends, but a Republic is a type of democracy. It's a Representative democracy. A democracy is a system of government where the people rule, as opposed to a Monarch or dictator or such.
A representative democracy, such as a Republic, places power in the hands of the representatives that the people elect. Our Founding Father's didn't want mob rule, an absolute democracy, where the people represented themselves. But they did want a government of "by the people, for the people" instead of a monarch and aristocracy.
There are many types of Democracies. I think people want to argue that if we aren't an absolute democracy, we aren't a democracy at all. But that's just not true.
Don't let your frustration with a political party override logic and basic word definitions. Would people be so against the idea that the US is a type of democracy if the Democrat party was called the Progressive party?
I've noticed that the rejection of the US being a Democracy has been a pretty recent thing in the Republican party. It really does seem to have come about in the Obama era.

Embarrassingly, many Republicans, even some good ones, fall into the trap of calling the United States a “democracy.” They should immediately stop.
I think it was quite clever for the Republicans to call themselves Republicans, to differentiate between them and Democracy-crats

I frequently hear this discussion in my everyday life. I always interject and tell people we are a tyrannical oligarchy.
We WERE a Republic. The first step in getting it back is realizing it has been lost.
