So, I have been sitting on some extra money from when my mother passed earlier this year and decided this would be a fun thing to spend it on that I know she'd have loved. So, I went to the site and picked up one of each 45. My plan was to get them professionally framed and hang them in her house, which we rent out now on AirBnB.
I went through the purchase process and after a couple hours I had gotten all of them in my email. I don't know if they're going to be sending larger quality images, but the ones I got were not good enough to print out, they were small and would get grainy quickly when I made them large enough to print (I wanted to print them at 8X10).
I emailed to ask about them and got a reply back that said they will be sending higher quality images in a few weeks, these are the previews that will be registered on the block chain - I'm not sure how that all works if anyone has any ideas.
Overall I'm happy with them. I got another email saying I'm invited to an event at Mar A Lago and they will be in touch about when the dates are and the info.
Did anyone else buy some? Which ones did you get?
EDIT: I just got an email from the graphic designer who made the images, he included all 45 very high res images and said these will print as large as I want them.
I'm so happy!
I buy almost everything Trump puts out but I can't get my head around paying for digital images. It just doesn't compute how there is inherent value in something like that. Same reason I'm wary of crypto currencies. I may just be a techno-dumbass, but how are these actually of value??
Bc they can be held and resold digitally on the blockchain, as if they were physical cards. They cannot physically degrade, unlike physical cards and they are still limited in quantity like physical ones.
But it is digital, how can it not be duplicated many times over and inherently mean any "less" than the original other than sentimentally as the original is the original while the same superficially as the duplicates?
Think of buying an NFT as buying proof that you own something. So others may copy the image and use it, but on the blockchain it will always say that you are the true owner of said image - until you decide to sell the NFT, in which case the buyer then becomes the new "true" owner.
Duplicating an NFT image is like a counterfeit pokemon card. Sure you can print out your own, however do counterfeits have any value? No. Similar rules apply
Anyone can buy a reproduction Mona Lisa painting. The authenticated original on the other hand…
A lot of NFT/crypto bros here. I'm in the same boat as you: I don't see value in having "true ownership" of a series of 1s and 0s that can be duplicated with a right-click.
I don't see why people would in the future either, which is why the value of any NFTs, even these ones, will likely diminish to nothing just like every other NFT.
"Save image as" simply saves the image displayed to represent the original quality image, most often, creators only release a low res version for display, reserving the quality image for the NFT purchaser. The NFT itself is simply a certificate of ownership of that original image.
If I was talented enough I could replicated a Van Gogh, Rembrandt, Basquiat, Monet and whoever else floats your boat. I could do it on the same substrate that the original was done on. I could use the same paints, so on and so on.
This can be done so well that even a master in Morellian Analysis might not be able to tell, this is not true for NFT digital images. At least, if it is I’m not aware of it.
This means that a rare, highly coveted, NFT artistic digital image will be much easier to sell bc providence is much easier to produce. In the art world providence is “almost” everything when it comes to reselling a high value piece of art. I say “almost” bc the black/gray art market thrives on pieces that aren’t suppose to be sold, maybe they were stolen or maybe the IRS is after them and getting providence is difficult bc someone doesn’t want it to be known that they have it. But,, if a buyer is savvy enough and is wealthy enough that what they’re after isn’t about profit, but more about obtaining the unobtainable then they might be fine with buying regardless of providence.
The art market is plagued with forgeries bc there are a lot of very talented artists out there, just not a lot of very talented artist that can produce original works that are desirable to a lot of ppl. And, some of these artist will offer their services to forge a valuable piece. With an NFT you don’t have to worry about this and that gives a lot of ppl peace of mind when they’re getting ready to drop a boat load of money on art that they might have to resell one day.
*there are other benefits, but to me this is a big one.
You realize, creators can withhold the quality version of the image until a purchase is confirmed, and if the purchaser decides the share the 16k version of the image, they essentially blow their own investment to pieces.
