When did 1-3 “ of snow constitute a winter storm warning. Not that I wish death and destruction on my fellow pedes, but when I was young, we walked to school in several inches of snow. My mother’s retirement community in my hometown just rushed them through Christmas dinner saying they have to get home. Finished by 6pm, Merry Christmas.

Snows not the issue fren. It's the wind chill. Where I'm at they had my family member out (cdl driver) working his night shift in below than -20° Weather with 50-60mph winds. The trucks gelled up an stopped working because it was so cold, yet company made him go out... An he almost got stranded on the interstate, so...
They still make kids walk in many inches of snow here, so nothing's changed were I'm at.
Not sure why the fuel would Jell up. drove for over 20 years in extreme cold winters.. Most all diesel trucks that I drove had fuel tank heaters and you could also get #1 diesel. Not sure about #1 anymore. They were also equipped with air dryers that would eliminate moisture that could freeze up the air for the brakes. The only time we would shut the trucks off was to check the oil. He might work for someone who doesn't have cold weather equipment.. Hope he didn't get frost bite. I do know about cold weather. North Slope AK,. Not fun if you are not prepared.
Don't know the name but whatever product they put in the truck to prevent it from jelling up they must not have put enough for how cold it got. He said he was driving it down the interstate and it just locked up.
He works for UPS, and the center here is cheap with everything so could be that as well. Luckily no frost bite. Don't envy you guys at all, but thanks for all you do fren. Trucks drivers don't get enough credit.
The issue is that they’ve reduced the sulfur content in the diesel over the last 30 years. In the event water has found its way into your diesel the sulfur isn’t there to disolve into it which would prevent it from freezing, thus you get ice crystals in your fuel.
The higher biodiesel contains paraffin which gels at higher Temps. The fuel filters normally plug up much faster than running traditional diesel.

not just a storm but a bomb cyclone - aah
3" here when it was supposed to be 10"... But the friggin wind 30-40 mph...
That the thing. The wind chill factor is crazy!
I’ll take this over 2” of freezing rain though!
Yeah When I was a kid I seriously walked 2 miles in knee deep snow just to be met at the door by the principal that school was CLOSED. 1960s in MI
😪 I just want to tell everyone to slow down and enjoy what we have. Advent is the anticipation of the birth of Jesus and a beautiful season. Prepare.....Celebrating the birth of Our Lord Jesus Christ. I get that the wind chill is so bad right now and that can be very serious. Most groups are afraid of being sued like public schools close at the first sign of snow or ice because accidents could happen.
Yes, I agree, but mom is alone this Christmas because I’m in NC. They stole her Christmas dinner with her community because of a false flag. Feeling guilty? A bit but the past two Christmases I have spent with her and not my husband. She will be ok, but get rid of the panic hype.
Few inches of snow combined with 50+ mph winds and -27 degrees....not that hard to figure out.
It is a couple of inches of snow, 20 mph winds, and 2 degree temps. FYI. Ohio. I do hope that this is what happens. This should be mild and pass quickly.
What part of Ohio? You realize that Toledo, Cleveland and northern will get hit harder, than say, Cincy?
Yeah, she is in Cincy!
It's all well and good until the power goes out. Will start out as rain and then freeze then the snow/winds. I'm in Columbus and remember a few years ago we were without power for close to 10 days in subzero weather. It's not a fun experience and would rather err on side of caution, especially for the elderly. The high winds and storms in June that took out power for half the state for almost a week, shit is real.
And no, the shit isn’t real. The shit is planned.
Agreed, I think this was planned too. Can’t use the Covid excuse to keep from families from getting together and talk about current events.
Yeah, not going to happen in the few hours that they had to rush everyone through the dinner. It was 45 degrees and light rain at 6 pm when the dinner ended. I’m tired of the fear porn.
Guess this isn't real either: https://youtu.be/w0N4vvgK_ao
Read the original post.
Throw another Commie on the fire it's cold outside.
Years of global warming have softened everyone.
Wait this must be Global Cooling like they said was coming (when I was in High School!)😂😂☘️☘️
I thought they were panicking about extreme cold and wind chill
They hype everything weather related to 'prove' climate change is a real thing. The talking heads all read from the same script.
Stay safe out there. 🤦♂️
Grow a pair people!
They cancelled school in my area - all of them... for 44 degree weather and rain, cuz "wind".
I'm not kidding.
Faggots.
Yes, retired teacher as of 2022. Their OMG, we will have gusty winds and have to dismiss early shit was unbelievable.
In NY we got warning on 1-3 feet of flood
When 50 mph winds mix with -18°F real temp (-50° wind chill) I get it. The roads are garbage and visibility is worse.
I mean, in town it's no big deal, nothing we haven't been through many times before, but in the middle of nowhere? It can become life threatening pretty quickly.
Where I live in eastern NC, where extreme cold is very rare, the forecast is calling for 13 Friday night with a wind chill well below zero. We're supposed to have wind gusts up to 55 mph tomorrow.
In places that almost never have snow, any amount is bad. If the roads ice up, any kind of vehicle can just slide right off the road. In the early 80s, I had to stay at work until paycheck time, tried to drive downtown to put my check in the bank, and while stopped at a traffic light, my car slid sideways all the way to the curb.
I was never out of school because of snow, because we never had any while school was open. We had flurries one day, and everyone had to go to the windows and look. I knew some people from Georgia who had never seen snow a single time before.
It makes a difference that up north it snows often enough for snow plows to be on hand. In the South, it would be stupid for a town to buy a snow plow that might be used once in 10 years.
Not sure sure your point.
You're minimizing a storm that really is a big thing for some areas, especially with the extreme cold, high winds, and extremely low wind chill. And this extends all the way into the South, where we'll have zero inches of snow, but may have ice from all the rain we just had.
Nope not minimizing a storm for the situation. Did you read my original post? When they started dinner, they rushed everyone through due to the impending storm. They started at 4 instead of 5 and were finished by 6. It was 45 degrees and light rain. Flurries didn’t START to fall until after 9. I’m tired of this. People dont understand the toll it takes on elderly. I’m sure the left celebrates it.
The elderly needed to be home. Most of the ones I know won't leave home if they can't get back home before dark. The line of the front had a wicked difference between the east side and west side. And it was moving fast. So older people don't need to take any chances.
It's a bad enough storm for the Weather Channel to name it Elliott. :)
Nope again. The elderly need to be told to go live life especially if you live a tenth of a mile to the mothership as we affectionately call it. DO NOT LIVE YOUR LIFE IN FEAR,
I suppose you have perfect night vision. I do, but most of the old people don't. Also, a simple fall can kill an old person. My great-grandfather died from tripping on his front porch. Only one member of my church lives within a tenth of a mile of the church. So almost all the old members have longer drives to get there.
And I'm not talking about 40 or 50 year olds either.
Biggest real concern is the frigid temperatures over such a widespread area over stressing the electrical grid to the breaking point.
I don't know about you but sometimes I get the feeling that my local weather guy, like's to make it sound worse than it is... Being I think he over dose it a little bit and everyone starts to worry.
