Oil of oregano is very powerful. I rubbed it on part of my face to see if it would remove some pimple outbreaks and it burnt my skin after using it for about a week. It left a large scab and it took weeks to heal. I'm okay now but it showed me how powerful it is.
You aren't supposed to use any of these pure oils in their concentrated form. I don't know what was going on in that video segment which showed it being applied to the skin, when he was talking about his Crohn's Disease, but I'm guessing it was added to a carrier oil such as almond or coconut. The oils themselves which you can buy from various companies are too powerful on their own, so you mix them in water, juice or a carrier oil for topical applications.
My dad used to take Oreganol every day. He would put some drops in his his juice.
Those oils looked like DoTerra oils, so I'm guessing this is a piece of marketing from the company. Still, the information is factual, as these oils can certainly many pathogens. Did you know that Tea Tree oil is so powerful it can destroy MRSA? Hospitals have a tough time keeping Staph infections away, but with a simple topical application to sensitive areas like wounds, you can easily disinfect when prepared in the correct concentration.
You can use oils straight...you just have to know what you are doing...there are safety procedures that need to be followed. Many oils work best at 1:1 ratio...oil to carrier oil. Robert Tisserand wrote the definitive book on essential oil safety. He advises for the company Plant Therapy.
The biggest concern is the dilution rates and the recommended oils for pregnancy, babies, children and teens. There is much to know to use essential oils safely. Plant Therapy has a chart of dilution rates on their website and one available to order that is very valuable. I highly recommend the oreganol your dad used...excellent product with very specific directions for use. They carry products for children. Also if you want to topically increase the absorption rate of a topical oil, cover it with a wet cloth and heat. Water and heat increases absorption...which is why spa baths are so useful.
Spa bath recipe for those that love oils...
1 tsp. baking soda
2 tsp. Epsom Salts
3tsp. (1TBS.) Sea salt.
Mix together and add 10 drops of your favorite oil... blend... then add to bathwater. Online has many recommendations of blends.
Tea tree oil is incredible! I used a couple drops in the bathtub when my twins were little to keep the never-ending yeast infections from ever occurring. I wasn't awake at that time and now I feel the vaccines are what caused them to suffer with them so much.
Oregano is a hot oil and should never be used on the body undiluted, with few exceptions. Usually it is a 4:1 ratio of carrier oil/oregano. Clove oil is also a hot oil. You can put a few drops of oregano on the feet or back undiluted, but that's it. There is a product called oreganol that is prediluted and has directions to use for children/adults...which is very important...they have a few formulations. Very powerful antibiotic...very useful. Can be taken internally in a capsule...but I would only use that in a homemade formula recommended by a qualified aromatherapist, usually from a reference book. Otherwise oregano capsules can be purchased online. Yeah...hot oils usually burn...at least you won't do that again...
They can be deadly actually...some people can be allergic to some oils and end up in the hospital. If you ever get oregano in your eye use olve oil to dilute it and to rinse it out...never water. Sometimes you forget when you have oils on your hand.
I learnt this the hard way with tea tree oil. I got a pilonidal cyst, which reoccurred and I didn't want to leave it until I was forced to go into an urgent care to get it lanced again. I'd used tea tree oil to treat an abscessed tooth before, and figured that should work on it too.
Well by day 3 I burnt my arse crack, turned a huge patch brown, but it did the job when the skin lifted the cyst discharged. Haven't had it reoccur since. I'll make sure to dilute it next time, with how much I used a bottle would last a lifetime and thats pretty damn cheap and easy compared to getting it surgically removed.

Scary.
I dilute my Oregano oil with equal drops of baby oil and I have never had any burns. It works like a miracle.

That's a great story. Yes you don't need to use much and the cost is low.
I use hydrogen peroxide for pimples! :D
