That has to be photoshopped. A train couldnt go down those tracks. We have a couple abandoned lines near me that are well over 100 years old. They havent been used in at least the 50 years Ive lived here. I walk them all the time and they still run pretty straight and true. I live in SE Michigan where the freeze thaw cycle is intense.
It's not shopped, but it was taken with a long lens, which exaggerates the rail deformities.
That said, treating the railroads with indifferent contempt while handing out fat federal subsidies to airlines and highway builders has been a DC tradition since the end of WWII.
Amarican railroads were once the wonder and envy of the world. Foreigners are amazed that we have allowed this deliberate deterioration to happen.
110% that video has nothing to do with the derailment we all mention. Norfolk Southern may be a shitty corporation, but they as a class 1 RR, They absolutely do not have any rails that are in that ahape
It is all about deferred maintenance, company stock price and management bonuses. And it is not only the railroads but every form of transportation even bridges and roadways. Everybody is chasing the almighty dollar.
It has been long overdue to revolutionize heavy freight transport in America. There is a need for a double gauge, high speed freight system. Double the width and half the length with a lower center of gravity and freight speeds over 150 mph that have modernized switching and no surface traffic interaction, either by routing traffic over or under the rail crossings. It would cost billions to implement but the increase in efficiency and the added military utility would be worth so much for our defense. Scores of lives would be saved by eliminating truck freight on highways not to mention decongesting traffic. Millions of new railroad jobs would offset any losses in trucking. Why are we using rail gauges that were based off the Roman system of road width a thousand years later? Imagine being able to dispatch freight and military assets from the East coast to the West in 18 hours. Hey invading Chinese army, surprise we just moved entire divisions from one coast to another in a day. Furthermore, if our debt has been stacked up with the intention of the economy growing to the levels needed to service $25 trillion, we have to plan our infrastructure so that growth is possible.
The railroad workers strike last year was for better working conditions but resident in chief shut them down!
They don’t give a damn about us deplorables!
A lot of people saying this is fake, as a photographer this is an effect from using a tele lens were everything is compressed. Same effect if you are standing by a seemingly straight and flat road, use a long lense and said road is suddenly bumpy and curved. (Not all roads.)
Those look like "Common Core" train tracks ... approximately right, but not correct.

Okay . . . That needs to be memed!
This is fake news
Judging from the picture, I’m not even sure how it is possible for a train to cross those tracks.

Are you certain of this? I cross several RR tracks during many of my drives. They look only slightly better than that.
At best - this is a rarely used dead-end spur line. This is not a mainline.
Perhaps, they are "shortlines".. contracted out to the bigger RR's. Just sayin, all class 1 RR's mainline trackage, are not in a shitty state
Say what you will, but no fucking way that is a union railroad.
That shit wouldnt happen.
Moving at the speed of 1 foot per min
Yikes! Maybe when we get back from our vacation in Ukraine we can find some time to take a look at this.
Yup. East Palestine was an accident looking for a place to happen. Coming to a town near you unless this gets fixed.
Funny and sad at the same time..
That is truly scary. It’s outright criminal that this is the state of infrastructure in this country.
Speed bumps. For your safety.

Didnt the puppets of the pedo death cult just sign a huge "infrastructure" bill? Im sure that money will go where its needed. /s
