Big Wheels and Green Machines. Slip n Slides. Sit n Spins. Sticks n Rocks. When we lived in the Imagi-Nation.
We used to play chicken on our Green Machines! Good times....
I could have been one of those kids. I highly relate to this. Used to participate in similar projects, all of which would be considered highly dangerous by modern parents.
My kids were very free range. Looks like our backyard on most days. They often got dirty, occasionally got hurt and generally had a great time.
"Go play in the creek. Be back before it gets dark."
These kids are helmeted for safe shoveling...no worries!!
Reminds me of a time when us kids found a huge sheet of ice in a field. Water had collected and then froze, forming this long and wavy patch of ice that was about 50 feet long. We immediately ran and grabbed our bikes to see who could make it the furthest down the thing without crashing.
Nobody made it further than 30 feet and we were there for hours lol.
Lol, helmets.
Board on a cinder block. My first header.
His helmet says BEAST MODE. I'm skeptical when this was taken
Just the fact that they're all wearing helmets is suspicious
Beast mode was around well before ipads or even cell phones. And I'm 35 so I grew up in prime beast mode era.
The helmet observation however is a bit more telling. ;)
Safety? What safety. It was the 90s
I'm 34. The kids that wore helmets got picked on the whole time or took them off as soon as no adults were around. Helmets were only ok during stick fights so we could hit each other in the head without hospitals being involved lol.
That's what I keep telling people also!! Even people in their 30's and 40's are brainwashed in to believing without helmets kids die. We never wore helmets and kids who did got picked on for sure!!
Those are little kids though so probably less rebellious than if you were in your teens.
Teen-sized BMX bikes like that, with wheels like that were popular in the late 80s, for little kid bikes to have that stuff, and three of them with helmets. I'm guessing 90s or later.
mini alphas lol
The helmets are motorcycle helmets? They are on bikes. Looks to me the helmets are part of the play. They are pretending they are riding motorcycles.
BMX bikers wore the same style helmets as dirt bikers.
Oh that makes sense. They look so large tho, I assumed they found them or someone let them play with them.
They seem to fit. Kids have big heads?
Boy does that bring back the good old days!!!!!!!!!
I would have been smaked senseless if I tore up the yard like that.
I'm betting the dad was big into BMX or motocross.
I remember those days. Couldn’t afford a real dirt bike, so my stripped down Schwinn was my #1 growing up. We would be jumping ditches, setting up ramps and playing outside until the street lights came on.
I played baseball on an asphalt cul-de-sac. So many skinned knees.
I still have the now-cracked bat I used--and the ball.
We played hockey on the pond behind my house - never froze more than an inch thick. If we heard cracking, we scattered. You could see the crack shoot along the ice.
I SO remember similar things!
Do any kids today know how to do a wheelie, or even what it means?
I remember going off ramps with my brothers! We would put it at the bottom of our gravel driveway so we could get maximum air when we went off the ramp!
No helmets when I was that young, circa 1958.
Those helmets are too heavy for those kids' tiny developing cervical spines.
When I did jumps on my bike, or rode it through a forested trail back in the 60s, we didn’t wear helmets.
Zero kids ever wore bike helmets FFS when we were kids
Get branded young as a dork, ya virtually never live it down
Yep, I never did. Still don't. These are kids probably under 10 though, and Mom influence is pretty strong then, especially in the back yard. This is back when kids had both parents for the most part and mom was around the home.
