I'm happy to take the wins as they occur, battles in the war, and certainly this issue can be addressed after some of the rot has been cleared from society and government. I did find an interesting article (though forgot to grab a link) that Trump, in 2018, I think, wanted the legal gun ownership age for rifles raised from 18 to 21. I found that surprising (though I have no real basis for this opinion).
My general opinion on youth nowadays is that they're far less mature than they were even twenty years ago. This is likely due to the deliberate dumbing-down and winding-up (for violence) of our youth by the corrupt education/indoctrination system currently in place. This isn't to say there aren't many fine, responsible 16-year-olds, for example, who would be fine, safety-oriented gun owners. It's really a matter of temperament, upbringing and maturity, not a one-size-fits-all issue.
Edit: The above-referenced map chart has the correct current age restriction for Florida so use it for comparison to other states (and it would be wise to double-check info there with the actual Statute link). Anon u/imissvoat pointed out that in the graph chart specifically in the ensuing Florida section, the description of the age restriction has NOT been updated from 18 to 21 to reflect the current firearms age restriction
The country/map chart in the Overview section of the US page I'd cited has the correct age requirement. I'd pointed that out for comparison with other states. As far as the detailed description in the graph for Florida...
It looks as if Wiki didn't update their US page's description for the state OR the state page description with the correct info, but drilling down to the actual law, Statute 790.065(13) it has the current legal age correct.
Edit- good catch, btw, and thank you for pointing that out.
For those Floridians out there. I don't like having to get a permit and involve the government in my business, but cops, and more so juries (God forbid) really put a lot of weight into them. In the end, it's your safety that you are looking after in the first place. Regardless, get carry insurance. Even a justified action can bankrupt you in court.
Actually, DeSantis has been a solid advocate for removing permitting requirements for concealed carry and is even an advocate for open carry. As he stated, if he can get the legislature to pass 90% of it (full Constitutional) he can go after the remaining 10% later. Do you have some info contrary to this you can share?
Just like when sudsy-Rubio was the darling of the tea party movement….it is obvious…. Pretend to be something until you get the position you want, then abandon them.
I’m nowhere remotely near a liberal and im sure I’ll take heat for this, but as a gun owning, CPL carrying Floridian who has to live with this, I honestly have a hard time accepting it as a win. Why? My state has ridiculously high amount of absolute degenerate fucking morons. Our court system will do anything g to settle cases quickly including pleading down felonies to misdemeanors by the dozen. We are the mainland capital for out of staters coming to either party their brains out or run away from some aspect of life at home. While I recognize laws don’t stop crime, they do to some degree deter it. Threat of punishment is a natural human thought in the back of anyone’s mind. I’ll withhold final judgement for now, but my hopes aren’t high that this reduces crime. Florida has a tendency to take anything balls to the wall.
Thank you for your input and perspectives. I think some people underestimate the number of liberals and rabid leftists that live in Florida. For decades it's been a haven for leftist retirees from NYC. They tend to willingly allow the destruction of law and order wherever they migrate. They've historically tended to gravitate towards certain areas (Miami, St Pete, etc), but (anecdotally) have been spreading like a cancer all across the state. As far as crime there are also loads of illegals from south of the border (many hardworking and peaceful, many violent criminals) and lots of drugs.
Questions - are you saying that the judicial system - including conservative judges - is lax with sentencing? That would be disappointing. Also, since the passing of your state's Castle Law, are you aware of any decrease in (occupied) home invasions? (Primarily when the resident is at home). I think that might be a decent harbinger of how effective this carry law may prove to be.
I can't imagine the decreased restrictions on concealed carry being a bad thing, don't know that armed decent citizens will have that big of an impact on drug and murder-related systemic issues. Much of that crime remains within the confines, if you will, of that culture (drug dealers shooting each other, etc). What it will do is allow decent people to more safely travel and be out in public. If good people can better protect themselves and their families while out and about in an increasingly dangerous world, I'm all for it.
The justice system here is a joke. It’s basically nothing more than a revolving door. I believe it’s largely due to the transient nature of the population and a system that hasn’t grown fast enough to keep pace with population growth, but regardless it sucks. I’ll give you a perfect example. Had a 8x felon try to break into my house by kicking in the front door a few years back (I wasn’t home). Cops were there in 10 seconds bc they had already received prior calls. The guy was booked and released on personal reconnaissance bond. When it went to trial the judge let him plead it down to disorderly conduct and gave him a fine. I was disgusted. My wife and kids were in the house alone at that time, god knows it could have ended differently.
That's scary. And it's no wonder why the criminals are so brazen. I'm wondering if your judge was a liberal, if he/she was Soros-funded. This kind of "justice" is exactly what the marxists want - increasingly violent criminals terrorizing decent citizens. The marxists are deliberately allowing thugs back on the streets with only a slap on the wrist, as in your case. Kicking someone's door in is not "disorderly conduct" and I bet if something similar had happened to the judge, he/she would have called in the swat team and locked the felon up for awhile. I'm sorry you and your family had to go through that.
Are the prisons full? Or broke? No room for felons below a certain level of violence? I really hope that the WHs get this country back under control, but even so it's going to take years for us all to clean out the rot/corruption from our 'justice' system, 'education' system, government, etc. Years if not decades. I'd like very much for your kids to have a safe, fair and promising world in which to live in and raise families of their own in. So we pray 🙏 to the Lord that He delivers us all from this evil. I imagine it's just as bad all across the country.
I can't disagree. I was trying to pick words that relayed "currently standard", perhaps (such as not bringing firearms into courthouses, schools). I'm in no way trying to put a stamp of approval on infringement on what's currently "acceptable", hence why I didn't use that word either. If you think I'm trying to gaslight the issue, that's unfortunate, but you're entitled to your opinion, of course.
Niiiiice
Nice gold cup too!

Anon u/blacksmith21 had a good post on this recently.

DeSantis is so weird.
He hangs around the swampiest of swamp.
Then he does things in his state that are just common-sense, pro-America actions.
I don't get it.
DeSantis has done a thing on this. The Senate put him in the crosshairs. Sign or veto is his only role, and a veto sinks his ass.

This is the way…
"Notable, ordinary restrictions"
Still sounds like infringement to me, with a side of gaslighting people into believing that what restrictions are in place aren't infringement.
I can't disagree. I was trying to pick words that relayed "currently standard", perhaps (such as not bringing firearms into courthouses, schools).
