"I think this would be a good healthy step for Texas to bring back this tradition of recognizing America’s religious heritage," said Sen. Phil King, R, who sponsored the bill.
The upper chamber also on Thursday passed a bill empowering school districts to require that public schools provide time for students to pray or read a religious text.
Not constitutional....nice for some.
To add to this, I am a Christian however most of our Founding Fathers were not. They were deists. The only religious heritage America has is freedom of religion. <= what you shouldn't focus on in replies
This action most likely goes against the Establishment Clause. See Abington School District v. Schempp, 374 U.S. 203 (1963) for similar precedent. <= what you should focus on in replies
It is my understanding that they were God fearing men. Where did you get this deist info? I'd like to read it. Their separation of religion and state, had nothing to do with God, and everything to do with the power that as an example the pope has. Religion ran the crown, the crown was corrupt and evil. Our constitution mentions God several times indirectly.
They mostly came from Protestant Christian backgrounds, if that makes you feel better but honestly, it's the wrong point to focus on in this thread. The FF Christian/Deist debate is counter-productive.
Do you have any thoughts on the post itself?
I don't think it is counter productive. Our constitution is based on freedoms given by God to man. So it should be taught as such. Prayer time? Any time is prayer time, so that seems silly. Teach the constitution and it's God based origins. Ten commandments I'm not sure on. I mean they're good values to teach, but..... I guess perhaps they should. If they're going to teach evil shit teach godly things too. Free will is a Christian tenant so give them all the info and let them decide!
Some were deist but Christianity was the bedrock of the culture in those days. Our country and its founding is based on biblical principles of representative government. The whole reason the first Euro settlers came to this land was to flee religious persecution. See Mayflower compact.
Cool now see the edits on my comment.
Do you have any opinions of the actual post itself?
My opinion is to abolish the DOE all together. Government has no business educating our youth. Privatize education and let market competition sort it out. It’s a non issue for a private school. Btw, I am also Jesus freak. Thank you, for at least trying to keep people on topic.
Lol! Your can of worms friend!
"Separation of church and state" is not a constitutional concept, despite what anyone, including courts say. It's just a bullshit interpretation.
The government should be allowed to be religious without violating the first amendment, they just cannot prevent you from being a different religion.
Moreover, people should vote with their religion in mind. If a person is truly religious, their religion guides them in every choice they make, so how could they possibly vote without their religion in mind? As such, if the population is predominantly one religion and therefore the majority votes with that religion's ideas in mind, how is it possible to have a government that is completely devoid of all religious principles?
If you believe that abortion is wrong, you vote that abortion should be illegal. It doesn't matter if the reason you believe abortion is wrong is religious or completely secular, it's still your opinion. If you recognize that your religion drives your morality, should you recuse yourself of voting on any issue that involves morality? Do you somehow ignore your own morality and try to vote based on some sense of secular morality which you don't personally agree with? It's impossible.
Religious populations lead to religious governments under democracy. To try to artificially prevent that is to undermine the principles of democracy.
The first amendment literally says Congress shall not create laws respecting any religion.
Exactly. So there should be no law saying anything about religion.
Laws preventing religious display are unconstitutional. It is not constitutional to prevent the display of the 10 commandments.
Laws that enforce government actions in displaying and teaching religious doctrine are unconstitutional, especially if it's in the form of a publicly funded institution.
Would you want state sanctioned Satanism or Islam being taught in school?
No, it says it shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion. That is, it can't openly support a specific Church or group. It doesn't mean it can't have religious values.
That's a bit of a stretch. An establishment could mean a specific church denomination, or it could mean an established religion all together.
By your logic, schools should be able to preach Satanic and Islamic principles as long as it doesn't dip its toes into a specific denomination of either.
i do believe abortion is wrong, 1000%. but it is not up to me to tell others they can't, that is between them and God. but it should be up to me to NOT have to pay for these abortions. if they want an abortion, then they should have to pay for it themselves.
What about murder? Should murder not be illegal because that's between the murderer and God?
i totally believe abortion is murder, and no i don't condone any type of murder. what i was trying to say is they don't believe it's a baby, they believe it's a clump of cells, even at 9 months they won't say it's a baby. but they want the right to abort it. what i was trying to say is that i'm not trying to take away anyone's rights (it's what they say we are doing), even if i don't agree with them. but what is truly wrong is to make the people who do believe it's murder, pay for it. Planned Parenthood is funded with tax dollars.
these people don't understand we are not only fighting for the baby, but if they choose to take it's life, i do NOT want to be forced to pay for it. and i believe God will deal with them.
just like they should not have the right to force me to take a vaccine i don't want. it's all about my body my choice with them until we choose to NOT do what they want. sorry this is so long. i hope i explained Ok?
How is it not constitutional?
Separation issue
Church and state, not religion. At the time/currently the pope ran the crown. They didn't want the pope to be able to run our country. Thus church and state. This has been used against us by the deep State that hates God. They've twisted meanings as the devil does. We need to take true meaning back!
Nonsense. Allowing the posting of the 10 Commandments in schools is neither a law establishing a religion nor preventing the free exercise of one's religion.
Exactly. And a law preventing it should be considered unconstitutional as it would be a law about religion.
