We have those hawks here, they're huge! On a side note, when our other dog was a puppy a golden eagle swooped down and tried to get him. I never moved so fast in my life! I couldn't believe what I was seeing, a giant bird coming down past waist height, thought for sure my dog was a goner!
Nonsense, they can only gain lift if carrying a critter the size of a rabbit or squirrel. They could probably talon a cat to death if the cat doesn't freak the fuck out (which it will), but will never be able to fly off with it.
Who said anything about flying off with it? They kill with a bite to the neck, and they can eat their fill right where the kill is made if they're not disturbed. They don't kill prey with their talons.
If an eagle were to attack a cat, it would likely do so from the air and use its sharp talons to grasp and carry it away, rather than using its beak to kill the cat on the ground. It would be a struggle is my point, far from "just a snack".
Nice. Resort to personal attacks because you don't like the truth.
Bald and golden eagles are large and powerful enough to prey on cats and small dogs if they want to, and have been known to do so on occasion.
Most eagles probably won't come close enough to human habitations to prey on pets, but if your pet wanders too far and there's a large eagle that's not scared of humans like the one in the pictures above, all bets are off.
BTW I didn't say you were wrong/"I don't like the truth." Which as I indicate below the truth is if you have outdoor cats they are very much into FAFO so you never know what shit they might get into/what might get them etc. I can't believe the people near me whose cats roam and we have coyotes in the open space behind the houses here....
So back to eagles, yes cats are possible eagle prey though not often. Getkek does not appear to actually know what he's talking about - esp the carrying the cat away - maybe a short flight as a cat is roughly double their normal lifting capacity, and if it did carry it there wouldn't be a lot of struggle since talons ratchet closed, though it would typically be more as you describe like blam/cat dead/snack as much as possible before having to leave.
All that said, my main point still is, sack up and don't post lame stuff like "but they will eat muh pets!" on a cool post about eagles. Unless I misread YOUR comment and you were actually saying this adds to their coolness - I only just now thought of this in which case I apologize and retract everything and say YESSSS.
Edit: Growing up, we had a big tabby tom. As he got older he ranged farther, we'd catch him coming back for food once in awhile. Often all wounded and shit. Eventually he didn't come back. But he died doing what he liked doing....
Majestic!
Yes --- these are beautiful birds.
The Golden Eagle's lifestyle is more majestic (if you are thinking predator).
The Red Tail Hawk does the voice overs
We never used to see eagles in Ohio when I was a kid.
They made a huge comeback.
I can never get over how massive those birds are, just beautiful! π¦ πΊπΈ
I saw a juvenile recently, bigger than full grown red tailed hawk

Who the hell downvotes a beautiful bald eagle? This is cool. I saw one about a month ago in my neighborhood.
Beautiful.
Just GORGEOUS!!!!
Why do they call him the bald eagle? Does he not have feathers on his head?
The name comes from an old English word 'balde', meaning white.
OK thanks. That makes sense.
I identify as balde

Beautiful! Looks like my neck of the woods....C'bus (Powell) here :)
Marysvilleπ
We have a fish hatchery at the end of our road. They enjoy hanging out in the area lol
Should we send him a fish?
They'll kill and eat your small pets.
How small? My cat weighs 12 pounds.
Just a snack for an eagle.

On the ground is even worse. But down vote away lol.
They are formidable to 5 pound prey.
How to say "I'm a faggot" without saying...
